I'm a recent graduate but was wondering do MTs ever work overtime? If so, how do you get paid for it since we don't go by a set hourly wage? Thanks for your input!

If you get no answer to this, it's because everyone has passed out from laughing hysterically.
Technically speaking, IF you are working as an employee and you work overtime, you should be paid an increased rate for the overtime hours, even though you are working on production. In reality, this rarely happens.

Actually, as an employee, there's some convoluted formula to figure your average hourly pay for the last however long (weeks, months, whatever)--same as when they calculate your PTO pay--and paying half again that much for OT hours.

As Julie says, overtime is rarely paid in this business. It really can only be paid if you are an employee who punches in and out on a time clock as well being paid on line count. In that case, if you work more than 40 hours in a week, your employer would generally have to pay you half again your standard line rate for lines done in your overtime hours beyond the 40. (Which is why most companies that do require punching a clock forbid working overtime without express permission.)
If you are an IC, of course, there is no overtime at issue, as it is strictly an employee concept. People who run their own businesses spend whatever time is required on the business and make whatever they take in above expenses.

We get "count and a half" for our OT, and we have had tons of it lately. As employees, of course. If we get far behind, our OT becomes mandatory an hour a day for everyone on the accounts that are behind. Last year we were on mandatory OT every day for a couple of MONTHS. The paycheck boost sure was nice, but man were we tired.

Just to add to everyone's ideas... our company has offered incentives on the weekend, incentive on a team effort and their incentive for lines typed.
Is their OT in MT. YES.

I get paid hourly working at a hospital and we are paid time and a half, but OT is only OK if accounts are really behind. When I worked for a service and got paid on production, there was some formula they used to figure out an extra incentive for working beyond 40. I like getting paid hourly much better.

We get overtime and at the moment we are having mandatory overtime which works like NiteNinja's (an hour for everyone on the account) only when it's mandatory. When it's not, we can work as much overtime or extra time (like make-up time) as we want.
