My husband works for the County. His office is in the same building as the County’s Mosquito Control. One of the Mosquito Control programs during the warm weather months is to place sentinal flocks of chickens in various locations throughout the county. Once a week blood is drawn from the birds to test for mosquito borne disease. We have had a flock on our property for the last several years, and yesterday the new chickens were brought out and placed in the coops out near the barn.

My husband had been out of his office for most of the day, but upon returning late yesterday afternoon was curious to find a brand new hose on his desk. Attached was a note from Mosquito Control which read:

“This new garden hose will replace your old hose which was mistaken for a snake earlier today.”

CHJ, your post made my day! I'd say it was 50% the garden hose being mistaken for a snake and 50% reminding me about Nicol Williamson as Merlin in "Excalibur." I thoroughly enjoy his work whether he is Macbeth, Merlin, Sherlock Holmes ("The Seven Percent Solution") or Lord Louis Mountbatten ("The Last Viceroy"). He has a very distinctive voice. Wish some of my docs could sound like that! When I get off shift tonight, I'm going to put one of those movies in the DVD player, sit back and enjoy!

Sounds like someone else hates snakes as much as my family. When I was growing up, we swam in the St. Lawrence River. Whenever we saw a water snake, we'd get out of the water and scream for MOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!! She'd come out of the house with a 22, blast the snake out of the water and we'd go back in swimming. I was 16 before I knew everyone didn't swim like that! \:D

ROFL!!!! Can't you just see the look on the person's face after they "killed" your old garden hose?

Oh, I understood it was the chickens that made the error in perception! (Having kept chickens, I experienced both their stupidity and their love of snakes...)

The garden hose met its demise at the hands of a County employee with a snake phobia and a machette.

Chickens love snakes?

OMG, that is too funny. You should submit that one to Reader's Digest, Laughter Is The Best Medicine. I bet they would print that, it's that funny!

Well, mine did, at any rate! I collapsed in horrified laughter the first time I saw it.
