It's a perfect, breezy and warm day here in SoCal and my son and I are going to the Dodgers game tonight. I never thought I'd say I'm excited to go to a baseball game but there's something about going to a game at the park that's tons different from watching it on TV. So yeah - I'm excited!

The only thing better would be baseball during the *daytime* on a Saturday. Unfortunately, Fox Sports has an exclusive window on Saturdays for their "game of the week," which invariably involves either the Yankees or Red Sox (or both), so most other teams have taken to scheduling their Saturday games for 6:00 p.m. starts. It's un-American, I tell ya!

Have a great time, Julie.

Well, there are always those Sunday afternoon games! (Or, at least, there are here.)

I love going to baseball games; we even watch the Little League games sometimes, even though we don't know any of the kids. The only problem with going to a big league game, though, is that we watch so many of them on TV, I keep expecting a commentator to narrate!

I have been on the sidelines of my son's JV soccer game today and it is the first game of the season I haven't had a sweatshirt on--YAY.

I took a pic of the scoreboard when we went to a Rangers game in Texas. It was 8:30 at night and 103 degrees, it's a good job I love the heat. I hope yours is more pleasant.

Oh, kiddo won 5-0 so that was an extra bonus.

Anne, that's why I always take my radio! In fact, that's how I learned the game when I started going to Oakland A's games in the late '80s.

Yeah, when you're cuddled up on your couch, under a blanket, watching it on TV!

Well, you had an unusual game, to say the least. I hope you got there in time to see the 10 runs in the first inning. I listened to the game last night (XM radio). It was so scary when the umpire was hurt.

Margie, if you are looking for Saturday afternoon baseball, then you need to become a Chicago Cubs fan. Even though there are lights at Wrigley now, most games are still day games. If you have cable, WGN (channel 9 in Chicago) is a superstation that carries the games. I don't know how the satellite radio works, but WGN-AM carries the games, too. When my dad was still alive, he could reliably be found on the front porch listening to the games every summer.

Glory, satellite radio (at least XM) carries all games live, no blackouts, so I can have a game almost every evening, which is why I was listening to the Dodgers last night.

We were there in plenty of time because the group we went with hosted dinner and I'm always there for food!

I told my son if the first inning was any indication of how the rest of the game was going to go, we were going to be there all night! It was great (for Dodgers fans, at any rate)!

I have pictures of the ambulance on the field in the 4th inning and I'm glad to hear the umpire is going to be okay.

Other than that, the game was over in the first inning. Because it stayed warm - it was 85 when we got there - it was a great night for a ballgame in the park. We never even put our sweaters on. We did get rained on - by ashes - from the Sierra Madre fire that's currently burning.

Football in a blizzard is even more fun (to watch on TV, anyway).

Glory,
Since I already go to 50-60 A's games a season, I'm afraid my friends and family would disown me if I took on the Cubs as well. But Wrigley Field is near the top of my list of ballparks to visit (I've already been to 18 major league parks in my lifetime).

Many years ago, I invited a date to an A's game and decided to leave my radio home in the interest of sociability. That night, the A's traded Jose Canseco right in the middle of the game, and you could hear and feel the buzz in the ballpark as people tried to figure out why Canseco just disappeared from the on-deck circle.

I decided then and there to (a) never leave my radio behind, and (b) only invite dates who were crazy baseball fans!

Margie, you go to 50-60 games a season? Gee, when do you transcribe? (she smiles and winks).

If you want to see Wrigley Field, you might want to do it soon. The Tribune Company, which owns both Wrigley Field and the Cubs, was recently bought by Sam Zell. He has put both up for sale, and not as a package deal. The state is looking into buying Wrigley Field, although just where our governor thinks he is going to get the money beats me (not that a little thing like that would stop him). There is concern here that whoever buys the Cubs would want major renovations to Wrigley which might not be possible with landmark status or would destroy the ambiance if allowed. The other concern is that the team will just be moved because Wrigley is old and small. Somehow, though, I don't think a new north side clone of US Cellular Field would go over real well. Heck, US Cellular Field didn't/doesn't go over real well. So like I said, come on down (while you have the chance)!

AnnR, WGN-AM used to have exclusive radio broadcast rights for the Cubs. I don't know if they still do. If they do, I don't know if they have some sort of deal to be carried on a satellite service. They're 50,000 watt clear channel and can be heard all over the midwest, but I think the Rockies would kind of get in the way of the signal for Margie (she smiles)

I'm afraid I've kind of bypassed satellite radio and cable TV. Too expensive for what little time I have to listen/watch it. I'll settle for the cop car calls on the scanner. They're usually more entertaining anyway (she laughs).

Well, Julie W8 thinks I don't actually work for a living. I am lucky to have clients who give me great flexibility. I figure that after 40 years in this business, I'm entitled. Plus, most of the games are evenings/weekends, and when there's a weekday game I just work ahead (or behind!) accordingly.
