Hi everyone! It's been a really long time since I've visited MTChat, but I see that you all are still holding the forums down in style! It's good to be back.
My radiologist is switching from Dictaphone Powerscribe to Dragon Naturally Speaking, and I'm a bit concerned as I have never heard of a transcriptionist editing this platform. Does anybody have any advice or insight into this?
Thank you so much!!!

It's been years since I took a class on Dragon Naturally Speaking at the local community college, so the program may have changed radically, but at that time if the user wanted the program to better understand him and make fewer mistakes with his dictation, then he had to edit the text while repeating the word/phrase that was wrong. Having a transcriptionist just edit the output (moving around in the document like you would in Word) does nothing to "train" the program. Having you edit the text while repeating the word/phrase that is wrong would train the program to your voice, not the doctor's, and would not benefit him when he dictates. Hope this helps!
By the way, I hope your doctor actually tried the program out before he bought it. I could never get the program to understand "select" which was the first step in a two-step command for anytime I was choosing text to bold, italicize, move, copy, etc. (This is for the dictator, not the transcriptionist.) Obviously, it wouldn't work well for me as a dictator!

Thank you, Glory1863 -- I really appreciate your feedback. Most likely I'll just be editing without training, the same as I'm doing now in Powerscribe. (Wow, that was really brutal if the program wouldn't recognize "Select" when you tried it!)
Thanks again!!!

My hospital is looking at Dragon. The demo was unbelievable. How is that working for you?

It was just implemented this week, and it's absolutely horrible for me (transcription/editing end). I think it understands the doc a little better than Dictaphone Powerscribe, but there are NO keyboard shortcuts (mouse for everything); NO voice concordance (it does highlight the text on the left side of the screen, but not the right side where one must edit; plus on the left side it doesn't show the punctuation, so it's worthless to even look over there - and of course moving the cursor within the text does not move the voice file to the corresponding area, because there is no voice concordance); and only ONE foot pedal (so I was told) that will work with it (for $140, naturally). Not to mention that I can't get the voice file to play properly, there is no dictation length displayed (under Unsigned Reports - Correct AutoText Report), there is no procedure type listed (to double-check he is dictating the correct exam while I'm editing), and no way to speed up/slow down the dictation.
My bottom line with this program is: TRANSCRIPTIONIST BEWARE!!!

Ouch! Thanks for the warning. I use Dictaphone's Word Client EXText program right now. It is so expensive and our hospital wants to change, but it is so easy to use once you know the keystrokes. I don't ever use a foot pedal. Hopefully we will stay away from it. We did have the demo and I asked about keystrokes and they said we could make our own shortcuts, but I, like you, want the voice to jump to wherever I put the cursor. Thanks!
