This was advertised in our paper, so I went last night just out of curiosity. Turned out it was a school who sent a representative (not even a transcriptionist) trying to sell their course on how to set up a medical transcription business out of your home(nothing new under the sun, right?). She went on and on about the usual, "oh, there's soooo much money to be made", and "oh, you won't have the expense of having to buy clothes", "you will save wear and tear on your car", and "you will save on your gas bill".

After doing some research on MT chat, I found out that this company has been discussed here before, and if I mentioned their name, it would likely open up a whole can of worms, as it did before (just as I suspected).

I so wanted to get up at the end and tell people the REAL story, but I held my tongue . I did confess to the speaker afterwards, however, that I indeed was a transcriptionist. She said "it's always nice to have somebody here who is actually down in the trenches".

I just shake my head when I see ads for "get rich quick by doing medical transcrption." Obviously someone is dreaming. It's a field like any other with its ups and downs but I can't imagine anyone becoming a multimillionaire doing it.

Oh, I wish you had said something! And I wish I could have been there to say something with you. I also shake my head and roll my eyes when I see ads for our profession like that.

So, how many MTs actually transcribe naked? I've always found this rather ridiculous; we may not have to wear "nice" clothes, but I just feel way too unproductive working in my jammies all week. I like looking presentable just for myself!

Besides, someone may show up unexpectedly. I usually like to get up and make my bed and put on presentable clothes. But sure as the world, when I stay frumpy in my jammies the UPS man or mail lady will come to the door. It's Murphy's Law. \:\)

Well AmBeck one summer it was very hot and I didn't have air conditioning and so I kept going from the shower to my chair. So yes, I have typed naked. The next year I got air conditioning.

I know, TMI

Easy. You believe the speaker at the seminar and you'll end up losing all your clothes.

Hi,
I agree with you!!! My husband and son make fun of me when they see me dressed with my hair and makeup done to stay home. My son always asks "Are you going somewhere"? I just tell them it s in case I see the mailman!! hee hee!! Makes me wonder how extreme I must look on my "days off".

Sure, as long as you keep your mouth shut and don't tell anyone that they won't be able to get a job after graduating from that course because they won't have learned enough to pass an employment test, and that most employers know that and many won't even let you test.

I was actually going to go to one of those seminars last fall and snag as many people as I could and tell them the truth. (Not sure if I would have had the guts to raise my hand and ask important questions.) I don't remember if that was when I was ill, or if the weather was really bad, but for some reason I wasn't able to go and I have been regretting it.
