A rectal exam on a person who comes to the ER as a result of trauma is known as the "trauma handshake" and if the trauma handshake is not done, the trauma exam is not complete. I find it equally disturbing that the poor man (cough) is now unable to work due to the heartbreak of a digital rectal exam. Huh? If I thought it would get me out of work, I'd let the whole lot of you stick your fingers up my ass one at a time. I guess he'd be back in court for that too, right? How exactly is a doctor in an emergency room during a trauma going to get a precise and documented informed consent? _________________________ I think that 1 of the poisons America faces is from a generation of well-educated triangulators.

gr8nurse gr8nurse New Member Registered: 04/03/08 Posts: 2 Loc: Christiansburg,Va	Speaking as a urse there are other ways to check for spinal injuries.This is the first time in 17 years of nursing I have ever heard of a rectal exam to check for spinal injuries. Secondly, if he had any spinal injuries mostly they would be at the top of his spinal. _________________________ live life so the preacher doesn't have to lie at your funeral.
