From one of the "Advance" online feature stories:
AHDI and MTIA model letter to send to legislators

Quote:
In our April 21 print edition, we talked to advocates with the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA) to learn more about the Advocacy Summit coming up May 15-16. Those interviewed talked of ways that every MT could participate in the advocacy effort, even if they couldn't journey to Washington, DC.

In that spirit, below is a sample letter that you can use to write to your legislators about important issues facing the medical transcription industry. If you'd like to write your own original letter or if you're planning on going to the nation's capital for the Advocacy Summit, you can find more information on talking points in the AHDI/MTIA Advocacy Guide. For more information on the summit, visit AHDI's Web site at http://www.ahdionline.org.

You can access the letter itself at the link above, it is an interesting read.

Remember the guy from Laugh-In who would say "Very interesting, but stupid"? That's what came to my mind when I read this.

Just skimming over it, I guess AHDI can't decide if the word is "useable" or "usable" so they used both. And when did healthinformation become one word?

I don't see why anybody in D.C. would be interested in what transcriptionists do. No lobbyist usually means no legislation.

Although I did a relatively quick scan over this letter, I don't see any reference here regarding where it all begins - with the dictator. We need to start there and first lobby for educational requirements for standards of provider dictation. Before they can get the letters on the end of their names, they should pass a dictation test that proves them to be legible, concise, accurate and with clear diction. Pick up your feet docs! Or does that fall under the "when pigs fly" category?
