Hi,

I have a doc who has been using Altapoint software for his e-records. Problem is, he now has to do his own transcription to use this product, is spending 3 hours a day to accomplish this, and has to give up one pt an hour. Not to mention, this is all lost business for me too. We're both losing money. Is there a way I can help him out? He's been using tapes thus far, but perhaps we could go to a digital system that would integrate with this program.

Need advise, please.

Lucy

What a surprise--it's actually less expensive to pay someone clerical wages to type for you than to spend your higher-billing professional time doing it for yourself. You really have to wonder what planet these docs live on that they can't figure that out for themselves.

He needs to talk to the folks that sold him this EMR. They're the ones who promised him pie in the sky and made money off him; they're the ones that should either set him up with a system that works better for him or refund his money. Only they can tell him what sort of provision, if any, their software makes for importing external patient notes and in what format those have to be submitted.

He made a bad business decision. It's not your job to fix that for him. Let him know that if there is a way to import digital transcription, you will be happy to work digitally rather than with tapes and paper. Other than that, it's up to him to work it out with his EMR company or give up the EMR.

Like I said, he made a bad business decision. It's still not your problem; he's the guy who needs to call and squawk.

Isn't it amazing, though, how much money they will fork over to companies like this just to avoid giving any to a transcriptionist?
