I love my career
As part of our 2008 Next Gen campaign, AHDI is encouraging healthcare documentation professionals all over the country to share their love of the profession with career candidates and our next generation workforce. To that end, members and others in the industry are encouraged to wear I Love My Career...Ask Me Why buttons and participate in events to generate awareness about the profession and recruit new industry candidates.
We also want to hear from you! Despite all the changes in the industry, healthcare documentation still remains a rewarding, fulfilling allied health profession, and we know there are many of you out there who feel passionate about your role in healthcare delivery!
So, if you want to really share your love of the profession, post a video telling us why right here at YouTube! You can record your video via your digital camera, cell phone, or web cam and upload it here. Your video should be no longer than 5 minutes and should specifically address the theme: I Love My Career...Ask Me Why

This sounds like an Avon/Tupperware/Mary Kay Recruiting/Sales Campaign.

I would rush out to get one of those buttons, but I just threw up a little and need to find the Pepto instead.

Like we don't get enough people saying, "Ooh, I know how to type! Maybe I should do that! Can you teach me?" Of course they type 25 wpm, can't spell, and don't know what a semicolon is!
Now, how do we keep those buttons AWAY from the folks from At Home Professions holding the seminars?
ETA: I rushed over to YouTube to see if any videos were posted yet. Nope. (When they are, can we click on the "Flag as inappropriate" button?)

If that group is a member, and somewhere I believe I saw that they were, I think that might be kind of difficult
I don't actually think this is such a bad idea (not sure I would have named it that though) ... depending, of course, on just what sort of videos result from it.

Not a bad idea for whom? The corporate members of AHDI who need an endless flow of new blood that will accept new ever-lower compensation for their work without complaint?

Hm. Interesting. Alas, I have no way to record my 5-minute video explaining why I love my career. (Believe it or not, it's like the last bastion for me...I have no webcamera, photo phone, video camera, or digital camera capable of more than 30 seconds.)
I'd be happy to wear the button...but I think it'd be wasted on the cats and dogs.

Okay, let me try to explain, the practical part of me concedes that from a member viewpoint, this is probably one of the most cost effective ways they can utilize for reaching out to a wider audience, requires minimal staff time spent on it, and, if they are really, really lucky, they may actually come up with some creative and interesting ways to explain what MTs really do to many folks who never heard of us at all. Regardless of the corporate members and what they expect from it (and I am sure they do expect something) I can't think that is a very bad thing.
Then ... oh dear, I guess I better check the sky for dark thunderclouds and lightening bolts before saying this ... but it is YouTube we are talking about here for goodness sakes. Don't know about y'all, but I have certainly spent my share of time there searching out the bizarre and wonderful.
I don't see anything in those rules about how to post a video for this contest that indicates that say, oh, I don't know ... someone like Da Nose could not produce a nifty tongue-in-cheek (so to speak), I love my job video Heck, near as I can tell you need not even be a member at all to submit something. I cannot even begin to tell y'all what sorts of paths this has set my creative imagination venturing down today as I contemplate potential video scripts

Do let us know exactly how long any such contribution remains posted, LOL.

I reckon we may find out because a friend of mine today gave me an absolutely splendid idea ... although my embellishments are a bit on the more responsible side than hers Now I just need to go find some cabana boys who don't mind being in a video, and then I will have to hunt up Mike and have him teach me some technology so I can do some tweaking ( I figure he owes me one for forgetting that he, himself, taught this old MT how to use her expander to the max about 6 years ago just like those new MTs do!)

"how u spel esophagogastroduodenoscopy?" "I has line count...give me a money!" "Dok is eating...DO NOT WANT!" "I can has shift differential pls?" "my blank keyboard...let me show u it"
and for the QA people amongst us..."Ur doin it wrong!"

Nae if you end up inadvertently cast on Survivor or Big Brother be sure to give a shout out to all the hard working MTs who don't have time to spend 6 weeks on a reality TV show .. ha ha! Seriously, I've heard that's their new recruiting angle, You-Tube. What fun! Personally I only use it to watch American Idol performances that I've missed or want to see again! ;)

I agree Da Nose needs to act--but Endiqua's lolcatz seem so rife with possibilities, it's hard to resist. What matchbook school couldn't use a hook like this to drag in those SAHMs looking for a little pin money?
