Got to work today and someone had replaced my keyboard with a nice new one (which I really did appreciate - my old one was getting rather raggedy). This one actually has a warning label on the cord (you know, the triangle with the red exclamation mark inside). I'm thinking "What! Now I have to be afraid of my keyboard!?" :o....in addition to everything else I have to be "afraid of"!? hehe
PS: Turned out it was just warning about carpal tunnel and other repetitive motion injuries.

Seems like everyone is playing "CYA" these days. Like a table saw that comes with a warning not to clean beneath your fingernails with the blade while it is running... Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration, but it is ridiculous. If only people would take responsibility for their own actions (repetitive or not) and stop suing everyone under the sun, this would be a different nation.

Wow, how old was your raggedy keyboard? My last few keyboards have had that warning. I totally agree with inkyfingers, by the way. I'm glad you have a new keyboard at work; it sounds like you needed one!

I just bought a new keyboard because the space bar and "e" key on my old one were completely dead. My kids complained because most of the letters were worn off and they still "hunt and peck." Guess what - I've had the new one for less than a month and the letters are all worn off again! (That's where the name BlankKeys came from - I've been at this job so long, I wear the letters off my keyboards.)

The keys on my latest keyboard started wearing off after just a few weeks too. I sometimes use a Sharpie to write them back on but that only lasts about an hour. Someone on this board mentioned that there are stickers you can buy to remedy this problem. I don't know if they are sold in stores but the poster mentioned ebay.

To keep letters on your keyboard, while it's still new, brush a dab of clear nail polish over the lettered area. Sometimes it still wears off but it takes a heck of a lot longer.

Okay, so what kind of board do you all like? I just got a wave and so far I like it. But I have been thinking of trying one of those ergonomic boards that have the keys split. It would be great to hear what some of you think.

Mine is a Microsoft Ergonomic Natural 4000 and it has been a favorite of mine for 3+ years now. The letters aren't even fading on it, thank goodness. The kids would hate that. So what do you think about the wave keyboard? I've been checking it out.

I like the wave but have heard so much good about the other, I was interested in the feedback. I have been so used to using the straight board that this is a vast improvement. I have used one other a few times and forget that I don't put my fingers on the inside keys, but I guess you get used to it. I was told by my chiropractor that she felt relief in her shoulders right away. For anyone on a keyboard all day, any relief would be appreciated.

I have the 4000 as well and adore it. I totally skipped the wave keyboard and dove head-first into the split :o). I totally love the reverse tilt (some remove that/don't put it on); that was just genius! It took about a week to get used to it but I was in school at the time and didn't have to rush. I've had the same keyboard for over 2 years and the letters on the keys are just dandy.

I've never worn off a letter, at least not completely, but I do wear holes in space bars and have worn off the little bumps on "j" and "f" keys.
Is wearing off the letters related to using hand lotion? I think I heard that once.

The "j" and "f" keys have bumps? Hmmm, how about that. I guess I didn't notice because mine are worn off too!

Wow, you actually had a hole in your space bar? I've been through 4 keyboards in 9 years but I never had a hole in any of them, just dead keys and the letters worn off.

My spacebar is really, really shiny but only on the left side because I never, ever use my right thumb (I guess because I'm left-handed). I can't imagine getting a hole in mine!! I probably just jinxed myself :o).

That's what I thought might be going on but didn't mention it in my previous post.
You wear holes in the spacebar?? You must do some sort of "chronic thumb rub" or something? Very interesting.

I love the split ergonomic keyboard. In fact, I can't type on a flat keyboard anymore, so I have to carry an extra keyboard when I travel and take my laptop. I just bought an old Microsoft split keyboard because I like the harder touch (I pound like I'm playing a ragtime piano).
I have never worn off letters, though. Amazing! My problem is that I am always putting in extra spaces between letters because I had surgery on my left hand and my left thumb sort of hangs out there and gets in the way and often hits the space bar when I don't want it to.

I always end up with deep grooves cut into my keys because I type with my fingernails. I don't use lotion and have worn out lots of letters, mostly vowels. I also have the really shiny space bar.

I just bought an older split "natural" keyboard (not sure of the model but it is microsoft white)and am having a hard time getting it to work with USB port..it came with a PS/2 so I got an adaptor since I dont even have PS/2 input holes and it wont seem to make the connection with the driver.
