Hello everybody. I have been an MT for a little over two years. I am hoping to find a good company that offers set hours, with either you choosing the hours/shift or the company giving you a set schedule. Can anyone give me some information on this? Thanks so much!

I imagine just about any company would be willing to have you set your own hours or assign you to a particular shift, so I'm not sure if you are asking the right question.
Is it that you are looking for a shift differential? Is it that your present situation allows you too much freedom?
Can you elaborate so that someone here can help you better?

Thanks for responding tropsicle. My company does not offer a set schedule. We work according to when the work comes in and when it is due by. I don't have any freedom at all because of the amount of work that we get each day. It is nice to have the extra work in the paycheck, and the people are very nice and helpful and try to work with me, but I end up at my computer for 12 or so hours a day, every day. This is my first MT job, so I'm not sure how other companies run things. I would like to work somewhere that I can start at a certain time and then be finished at a certain time, say 7 to 3, 8 to 4, whatever the hours may be, just so I know I have a time to be finished each day. Sorry, I hope that is a little more clear in what I am trying to say. I'm new to the posting thing! Thanks again!

Oh, OK, I understand better now. Certainly, the big nationals will put you a schedule, because they have plenty of work, if not in your primary then in any of a number of secondary accounts. However, that might mean a pay cut, at least in line rate compensation. Having only one job and nothing to compare it to sucks, I agree, but realize that the grass may be greener right under your feet.
Still, I imagine that most, by and far, MTSOs would love to have you on a schedule.

From reading different posts, I think our pay rate is a little low, so I guess I was hoping to move up a little in that area. I know what you mean about the grass being greener. I really like most of the docs we transcribe for and my editors are very nice, it's just the schedule thing. Also, we are not able to earn PTO or 401K or anything like that, so I was looking for places that offer that as well. There are quite a few places I'm thinking of applying to, I just have to talk myself into doing it I guess! Thanks again for replying!
