I have been researching schools and I think that I am set on M-Tec. I read on their website that the program is designed for 12-18 months but they also say that is working on it 12-25 hrs week. Can you complete it faster than that saying if you have nothing else to do and work on it 40-50 hrs week. THanks!

Hi Lindsey,
I graduated last October, and it took me about 14 months. When I started, I planned on spending a minimum of 40 hours a week studying and was able to map out the syllabus to finish in about 10 months. I am sure it is technically possible.

That said, I personally couldn't keep up the intensity it would have required to maintain that schedule. The first 3 months or so I stayed on track, but soon found the need to ease up and take a week off at times or only study half days for awhile. My poor brain just couldn't take all the material I was feeding it all at once! I do think that there are some who have completed under 12 months, but not many.

M-TEC is a great school; you won't regret your decision to attend! It was worth every penny and minute spent. Good luck to you.

ETA: Oh look! My first post since I joined in '06. LOL

Thanks so much, maybe it would be worth it to take longer and if I finish stuff earlier than planned to go back over it.

I finished in 7 months--but that's with no kids at home and husband only home on the weekends. Still, it took a lot of effort to stay on track. I found I did have to take the occasional day just to do absolutely nothing except read a book that had nothing to do with the medical field just so my brain could recharge a bit.

Probably! A lot depends on your learning style, and it takes awhile to figure out the things you need to devote more time to and the things you can just read and move on.

Hi Lindsey,

I had heard of people finishing the course in 9 months, but I started late August of 2007, and I am now into session 10. I feel like I will finish in about 12 months, although I am hoping to do it faster. I second the fact that sometimes you go on information overload and need a break. I would also advise you to focus on getting it right--quality--rather than getting it fast. \:\) Good luck with your studies!

Cheryl

edited to correct the spelling of Lindsey's name--that quality thing!

I took Andrews, another good school, and found that it's not a good idea to rush through. You just can't digest the information properly and you can end up forgetting things. A steady, reasonable pace is best, as is having an outlined schedule for self-discipline purposes. I needed that, anyway. I got up 2 hours early before I had to leave for work, and I made sure I studied for that 2 hours in case I was too pooped after work. Turns out, after work there were certain things in the course that were not too grueling and I did those, or I went over earlier information a bit.

Everyone is different, too. Some people are night owls and do their best work then. I do my best first thing in the a.m.
