CBS, CNN Deny Outsourcing Rumor.

The report:
Quote:
CBS, the home of the most celebrated news division in broadcasting, has been in discussions with Time Warner about a deal to outsource some of its news-gathering operations to CNN, two executives briefed on the matter said Monday.

I'm sure Al Jazeera or one of the other overseas news agencies will soon be offering "better, faster, cheaper" news to American networks!

It is already being done, Doug, to India and you aren't aware of it.

Indian transcribers have now diversified into what is known as "general transcription." They provide media transcription, technical transcription, legal transcription, and business transcription. Indian entrepreneurs offer digital voice recorders free of cost to those willing to outsource.

As it is, Detroit is virtually in India. All your "Made-in-America" cars have parts outsourced from India.

Vote Amit-Jabberwocky 2008 and we promise to solve all your problems.

Since the other thread was locked, I have to reply to you here. First of all, I never said gloating over transcription deals, I said gloating over offshore outsourcing in particular. Now look at the posts directly above. If a happy face waving a sign that says LOL isn't gloating when discussing outsourcing, then what is? What gloaters don't realize is that their time to be replaced by someone even CHEAPER, be they in China, Vietnam, or the Philipines, is coming too. And their time to be replaced by nearshoring (jobs going back to the country they originally came from) is also coming by someone with a GOOD WORK ETHIC and WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I have A LOT of experience with offshore outsourcing in more than one industry and I could sit here all day and type tales of the fraud, etc., that goes on but that might get too hot for the Hot Zone so I will spare you the details. As you can tell I am not a fan of offshore outsourcing as I believe countries should be responsible to provide jobs for their own citizens and stand on their own feet rather than sucking the teats of another country's economy via offshore outsourced jobs.

TJill: You're new to the board, right? When a moderator locks a thread -- that yellow padlock thingy to the left -- it means End of Discussion. Drop It. Move On.

If you still need to vent or otherwise get another in, please take it to PMs -- to me, or to one of the moderators if you have a specific gripe about the way things work here.

(It really truly does help to "read the directions" when trying a recipe for the first time and before jumping into unfamiliar message board waters. \:\) )

PS That icon doesn't mean "gloat"... It means exactly what it says: LOL. In this instance, where it was inserted after the "Vote" comment, it means LOL'ing at the notion of an Amit-Jabberwocky ticket for President of the US. It was a joke. That's how I read it, anyway.

You absolutely demanded that I bring you to the thread where I thought there was gloating, so I did! Don't ask me to do things anymore then if you are going to complain when I am polite enough to respond to you with what you asked for, rather than ignoring you and considering you nothing more than a flamer.

"Vote Amit-Jabberwocky 2008 and we promise to solve all your problems!"

Yes I was aware of where the happy face sign with LOL was located. What do you think he would do to solve our problems? It didn't seem to me to be a joke, but a sly little dig. Many people don't have any empathy so maybe I should not expect it. My bad! NOW THAT I THINK OF IT, PERHAPS I MISUNDERSTOOD IT COMPLETELY, AS SOMETIMES THE WRITTEN WORD WITHOUT FACIAL EXPRESSIONS OR TONE OF VOICE CAN SEEM DIFFERENT THAN IT WAS REALLY MEANT. AGAIN, MY BAD!

Please note that I have a right to my opinion too! You seem to be imagining that I have complaints with the "way things work around here." No, I don't. YOU seem to be the one who is thin skinned on the HOT ZONE. Should I keep my posts set to "lukewarm" all the time? Most people on here are very interesting, very well informed and very honest, and, best of all, do not jump all over me when I make a post. Honestly, I would sincerely appreciate it if you would post about anything other than ME. I thought we are supposed to be focused on the SUBJECT MATTER, not on EACH OTHER in a PERSONAL WAY. Or am I wrong and that is something else I don't understand as a "newbie?" Most of your post was about ME and my purported ignorance of the board and only a little bit addressed the actual subject matter. I would like to politely ask you to quit taking my inventory (and that of other posters from the aforementioned locked thread). Focus on YOURSELF and what you have to say for and about yourself and your experiences. Thank you very, very much for your future courtesy and consideration!

Jill

I have PM'd you to set the record straight. Believe me, there is no "gloating" involved.

Bless your heart ... I reckon most of the folks who post here have as much, and in many cases I am pretty confident they have more, experience with offshoring as you feel you do.

I think we can all pretty much identify with a quarrel over the policies of any given country, including our very own that we may disagree with. Certainly we have had lots of interesting and informative discussions here about just such things. Problem is, for the most part, folks in those discussions understand the quarrel is with the country ... not with the individuals from those countries who undoubtedly have have less control over those polices than you do over what happens here in this forum.

My best advice would be to either learn to whack the personal "baggage" (we have no handy accent marks so just imagine for yourself the French accent for that one) and the emotional hyperbole out of your participation in those sorts of topics because indulging in that is guaranteed to get a thread locked every single time.

In case I have not said this lately I will repeat this for those who may be new to the HZ and don't have a good handle on how it works ...

EVERYONE is welcome to post here, regardless of country of origin as long as some basic respect for the individuals who post differing ideas and opinions is used. If folks do that threads don't get locked. It is a simple concept to follow and one I strongly advise anyone posting here pay attention to.

Yes, this one is locked as well. Y'all know how to PM me if anyone has issues with that that they wish to continue discussing \:\)
