I need some feedback on Spheris as a company. I got contacted for an interview with them, but I have heard some negative things about them. I would like to know good/bad about the company.

I left Spheris nearly 3 years ago and never regretted my decision. IMO, there are much better companies out there to work for.

I had a phone interview with them. They asked me what every type of op note I had done in the past 5 years, what every nationality of ESL docs I had over the past 5 years. I told her a few of the ops and told her I don't pay attention to what type of ESL docs I do, I just do them, she wasn't happy about it and offered me a cents per line that I almost laughed at. I have years and years experience and told her I would never in a million years work for that small amount of money. When I asked her what she based that on without my testing, she said you couldn't tell me the nationality of your docs and you didn't tell me enough types of op notes. I told her that I was probably transcribing before she was born and thanked her and hung up.

Thanks to the quick repsones. I had heard negative things about them but just wanted to make sure. So, can anyone give me some really good companies, good pay, good benefits, good QA staff, and steady work?

Its not a joke MQoldy, that is what Spheris has become - and now you understand why the US transcriptionists are flocking elsewhere. They not only can't speak or type English in this ad, they are getting all the good accounts and the US MTs are getting stuck with the crapola more and more. Gee, they should give their US MTs food too, Lord knows they don't pay the newer ones enough to buy their own.

In fairness, I have to wonder whether this is an official ad generated or approved by Spheris. It appears (to me at least) to be a blog site and someone could well have simply written the post themselves and simply included contact information they found elsewhere. I agree, though, that the language skills demonstrated are completely appalling.
Also to be fair - I had heard that the MT staff in India were being transported to the facility and were not allowed to leave during the day, so having food provided was something of a necessity.
Edited to add: The Spheris India site is much more coherent and better-written, and they refer to "canteen facilities" rather than saying free food is provided. Interestingly, they note they have more than 50 CMTs as part of their Indian offices.

This has got to be a joke website..right? If not, it proves that babelfish does not make one ready to market themselves as proficient in a foreign language. If whoever is responsible thinks otherwise, I say bring on the "competition."

Endiqua, you may be right now that I look at it again. At the very least, Spheris needs to know this is out there as it is sure not helping them. Its a nice benefit to provide lunch for those transported in.

I've been with Spheris for 6 years and it's an okay place to work most of the time. Whatever you do, don't expect to be promoted into positions other than an MT, as most of the supervisors & managers only look at their close friends to fill open positions on their teams. There is no such thing as being rewarded for dedication and hard work. Ask anyone who works for Spheris now and I think they would agree with my opinion here. Sad, but oh so true.

Well, that website does appear to be a blog, but really shocking. Thanks for sharing that information. I have been with Spheris for 4 years and it is okay, but I have real mixed emotions about them right now. I "once" thought that was where I would remain for years, but now I'm just not quite so sure. I am really disappointed with the benefits situation in particular.

As a MT supervisor for a large teaching university who outsources a lot of work to Spheris (otherwise known as Edix), and who spends much of my day correcting and/or filling in their blanks, I would not work for them. They are horrible.

Edix did indeed become part of the company now known as Spheris, but that name is no longer used as far as I know.

Don't you mean "an MT supervisor" ?
I would want an MT supervisor who is better at being an MT than I am.
