Does anyone remember the previous company name of Spheris? It came up at work and it's driving us crazy trying to remember. Thank you!

lol, I signed on with EDiX many years ago and stayed for about 4 days. The nicest I could say about that experience would be "not my cup of tea."

Both Total eMed and Edix. They merged and became Spheris.

Dangit, how did I forget that 5 minutes, especially when I still have the T shirt and the coffee mug?

Yeah, I tried to check out Spheris since I live in TN and it's in Nashville. As soon as I found out they merged with Healthscribe, I was running away.

They should have just kept the name Healthscribe, as those are the folks who have pretty much taken over the entire show. If you went through the email address book at Spheris, most of the management and supervisory positions are now filled with Healthscribe people. Even Healthscribe employees who left the company before the merger are now back with Spheris in management positions. They have friends in high places.

I'm confused. It was my understanding that Total eMed changed to Spheris and they then bought Edix (was that their name?) and then bought Healthscribe. Do I have that wrong? I remember this because my favorite QA lady jumped ship finally at Spheris to go to Healthscribe and then about 2 months later I heard that Spheris bought Healthscribe and I felt so bad for her.

To the best of my recollection, the TeM/Medscape merge came first, then TeM acquired Edix (not the other way around even though Edix was larger). The company was rebranded Spheris at that point, and then later on Healthscribe was acquired.

Yep, that's how I remember it exactly, from the point of being TeM and acquiring Edix and then becoming Spheris. I left shortly before they acquired Healthscribe.

Actually, you forgot one.
I was hired by HealthScribe.
Within about a week (before I went to VA for my training), HealthScribe was acquired by AVICIS.
Spheris then acquired AVICIS.
How is that for convoluted??

My recollection is a little different. I worked for Healthscribe then ... and through its acquistion by Spheris.

Healthscribe changed its name to Avicis because it was going to provide solutions beyond "just transcription."

Nobody knew what Avicis stood for, and the name was generally unpronounceable. (Was it a hard-sounding C or a soft C? Was it a-vik-iss or was it av-i-sis? Who knew? Who cared? Nobody could relate to that name.)

It was shortly after that Spheris came in and acquired Avicis.

The name "Avicis" was short lived and unmemorable, so we always think of the old company as Healthscribe.

Healthscribe was pretty good when I started there. It had a 12-hour window to complete your 8 hours of work. I knew one hot shot who sometimes got his (yes, his) minimum in 5 or 6 hours, and he was able to quit for the day.

After it was acquired by Spheris, all the flexibility was taken away. Worse, we got all these lovely memos from the CEO or whatever telling us how he had hired so-and-so and was completing his team. I don't remember anything he published that related to those of us who used keyboards.

I remember the Avicis name change! Everyone was on here posting about it, wondering what the heck was going on, and no one knew how to pronounce it! That was funny!

I quite agree that things quickly went to crap after Spheris acquired HS/A.
I suffered for almost 2 years as a Rad MT, trying desperately to make my weekly line counts (I was hired with over 5 years experience, able to produce about 2,600 lines in 6 hours and with 99.9% QA score) to no avail. The amount of ESL docs, fast turnover of hospitals and cherrypicking were completely intolerable.
Spheris is the reason I changed my career, so I guess I should thank them for that at least.
