As an MT student, I've noticed while reading through several posts the numerous problems MTs are having with carpal tunnel. I am also a massage therapist and would like to stress to everyone to please consider getting massage for your carpal tunnel symptoms before even considering surgery. Carpal tunnel symptoms can easily be treated with massage by an experienced therapist who knows the protocol for treatment. In many cases surgery is unnecessary. If you don't know where to find a qualified massage therapist, you can check a national database on http://www.massagesoup.com or http://www.massageanywhere.com. There are also stretching and strengthening exercises you can do to keep your body pain free. Please take care of your bodies!
SoftFlex gloves are another noninvasive way to go. It would be best to get them before you even have symptoms. I find I can type faster while wearing them anyway, especially if the room is cold.
One thing that tremendously helped me was using only organic sugars in my cooking and baking. I can tell if I have eaten something with regular refined white sugar - my wrist acts up!
I knit constantly so this is important to me. Now that I'm enrolled with M-Tec, I'll be sure to not over-indulge at the dessert table at potlucks. ;)
Whether or not it works for everyone, I have NO idea but it's something I noticed when I switched to organic sugars (and a mostly organic diet).
