My new employer announced that he will be paying for our CMT tests starting in January 2008. What are some of your experiences taking this test? What can I expect? Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Ellen Drake has a post right above yours at the moment in which she gives excellent advice. I will add that I was not able to study as much as I would have liked, except for the couple of days just before taking the test. I found that I had put in unnecessary time fretting about how hard it would be. Review your BOS, prefixes and suffixes, know your anatomy, be sure to follow directions, and you should be just fine. You should have more than enough time to finish the test, immediately after which you will know the result. Good luck!

I took the prep class offered at TRS, which included systematically going through Language of Medicine and the BOS, plus a huge set of questions developed just for the class that we covered once a week for an hour. If you have access to something like that, it would be a great idea to avail yourself of it. If not, I would take the time to go systematically through both books on your own. That was extremely helpful to me even though I had just done that at Andrews 2-1/2 years before.
Make sure you brush up on eponyms as well as drugs and their generic counterparts with respective common dosing, including the correct spelling of commonly used drugs. I spent 6 months studying and found that to be extremely beneficial in preparing for the test.
Also, as you transcribe on the job each day, pay attention to things you aren't sure of with regard to definition, even if you know it's used in the right context and spelled correctly, and look them up if you aren't sure.
Lastly, take your time on the test, marking questions to come back to if you aren't 100% sure of your answer the first time. Then go back through all the marked questions first, answering them to the best of your ability. Take one final trip through all the questions/answers before submitting them. You have plenty of time to do your best to answer each one, so there is no need to rush through them, even if it feels like it at the time.
Knowing that you have prepared well will keep you calm during the test, too.
Best of luck to you!!!

Before she sat for her own, I believe Sally's advice helped me pass my test; I would take her tips seriously! There was a time when I was convinced the credentials made no difference; I believe those times are changin'. Go for it.
