I just recieved this email last night about a former student of mine. She is such a sweet girl and comes from such a sweet and caring family. They could really use a lot of prayers right now. (Please keep in mind I copied this from the email so please do not bash me about all of the spelling errors, etc.. I do not have time to retype). I just want to get this out there ASAP so she can have some extra prayers.............

Stephanie graduated in 2003. She tried to play field hockey as a freshman, but couldn't do it because she was getting migraines. That had gone on since she was 12. Her parents had her at all kinds of specialists, but no one could diagnose the reason for her migraines until this past March when she and her mother were in a car accident. They found that it was a genetic disorder. Brain fluid leaking into the spinal cord. Her grandmother and aunt had it but no one ever talked about it to help them get a diagnosis. Anyhow, she had been on all kinds of medication since the accident to help with the headaches. She learned to live with the head pains so she learned to deal with the stomach discomfort. She was losing weight but everyone thought it was the medications. She lost last semester with school and went back this yr. She was home one weekend and wasn't feeling well. Her parents fought her and told her that she was going back to the dr and not returning to school until she did. Being 22, they had a hard time convincing her to follow their advice. Her mother found her lying on the bathroom floor one morning and rushed her to the hospital. When they got there they told the parents that she should have been dead. Her hemoglobin count was a 2 or 3. She needed surgery because she had some kind of bleeding internally. They weren't sure she would make it through the surgery, but if she didn't have it she would die. when they got in there, they found the back wall of the stomach full of cancer. they removed it and wanted to attach the intestine to the esophagus, but found cancer in the esophagus. they also found a spot on her liver. She was in intensive care for about a week recovering. She is in stage 4 and really does need a miracle. While in the hospital she had an episode of dry heaves when they changed the meds. Of course she has nothing to throw up so that was a huge set back. then she had a temp of 103 and 104 after they put in a central port. They found that there was a fungus around the port, so they removed that and put in a pic line. The temp went down and has stayed down. She came home from the hospital today and is heading to Sloan for a consultation on thurs. Hopefully the chemo treatments will start soon.

Her 23rd birthday is coming up on November 18th. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll certainly keep Stephanie and her family in my prayers...she is only a year older than my son...I can't even imagine what her parents are going through.
