I have looked on M-TEC's website and here, but did not see the answer to my question. Please forgive me if I overlooked it.

Once you are a student with M-TEC are you able to access to
on-line work from various computers? I'm wondering if I will be able to work on the program during my lunch hour.

Thanks in advance...jcbettyb

Do you mean will you be able to work on your studies on your work computer during your breaks? You will be able to access the Student Learning Center via the M-TEC website once you have your password, and you'll be able to click on the various links. However, not much work is done on/from the actual site itself aside from an occasional reading assignment or an exercise (in the earlier sessions). For the transcription portion of the course, you will need your own computer. This is because you will need to install the SUM program CDs (the ones with the practice dictations) and set up a foot pedal, which, due to licensing, can often be done on only one computer. And it's not a good idea to put such things on a work computer or any PC that is not yours.

You could always take your textbooks and do your reading assignments during your lunch hour. Trust me, you'll have plenty of that to do!

Hope this answers your question.

Cindy, a current M-TEC student

Cindy,

Thank you. That is what I wanted to know. I knew that I could not use the foot pedal at work, but I was unsure of what other computer work there might be. Please do not bash me but I know that this one thing that Careerstep really mentions...the ability to work from any location. I have decided to not go that route and am just trying to figure out if M-TEC is doable for me.

Thanks again...jcbetty

You're welcome. You can study from any location with any of the online schools. This means you can do it from, oh, France. (Check out my location.) But on just one computer, as far as the transcription practice goes. The rest of it I really can do from anywhere: here at home, while visiting my mother in Indiana, or while basking in the sun at the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris.
