Word 2007 Autotext frustrations

My new work computer has come with Office 2007. Upon loading Word, I was horrified to see the drastic difference. The IT person at the hospital (I work in a private doctors office) couldn't even figure out how to insert Autotext. He managed to transfer my custom dictionary and my Autosave files, but has been working for the last several hours on tryign to figure out how to transfer the Autotext, or even how to add new entries to Autotext in Word 2007. Has anyone else experienced this? I was thinking that maybe they're calling it something different than Autotext in the 2007 verson. He had to go back over to the hospital, but said he would work on figuring it out and I said I would try too. I'm fairly computer illiterate, but thought I might post here for some help to see if anyone else has had problems and frustrations with it like I have today.
Any guidance or help from y'all would be great. Otherwise I guess I'm going to have to somehow convince my boss (yeah, right) to buy Word 2003. They just bought me a new computer, which came with Office 2007, so the chances of convincing them to buy Word 2003 are slim, but who knows.
Thanks, everyone.

Well, you could always convince them to let you work in OpenOffice.org, saving the files to Word .doc format. That's free.
Yes, Word 2007 absolutely stinks. MS Vista absolutely stinks. It's time to get off the MS upgrade treadmill.

You can still add AutoText entries the old way by highlighting the text and pressing Alt + F3; however, AutoText is stored in a totally different place in 2007 -- called QuickParts on the Insert menu. You can still insert the entries with F3 if you can remember the names of your entries. You cannot transfer them any more from one version to another via the Organizer. Your old entries would have to be in a global template in the 2007 startup folder. There's a convoluted way to use your old normal.dot in the startup folder and then have the QuickParts Gallery recognize that. Here's the biggie -- AutoComplete no longer works for AutoText entries. It only works for dates in 2007. Look up AutoText in the 2007 help file and you will soon figure out you're better off with AutoCorrect or a true text expander. Or go back to 2003.

Thanks Tonks and Cheryl for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it, and am more and more convinced that going back to Word 2003 would be the best option for me right now. Cheryl, do you know if Autocorrect is limited to a certain amount of characters? It seems like I ran into that before, on an old, old version of Word, but I'm not positive. I actually have saved all of my Autotext entries in one large document on a flash drive, so just loading that document and then highlighting them each individually and then re-saving them individually as Autocorrect entries wouldn't be THAT horrible, but some of them are large, like paragraphs of procedure notes, which may not "fit" an Autocorrect entry.
Thanks again. You guys are AWESOME!

AutoCorrect is limited to 256 characters in plain text entries. To get around that limitation, tick the formatted text option just above the With box.
But, be aware that AutoCorrect itself is limited to the total number of entries. Microsoft claims that number is 7,000. Many people have run into memory resource problems long before they reach that number and begin experiencing unexpected crashes. The AutoCorrect file is also well known to corrupt, so be sure to keep a backup file handy.
Just as an FYI, highlighting a word or phrase, then pressing Alt + T + A to open the AutoCorrect dialog box still works in 2007. There's no need to go the extra steps it takes via the ribbon or quick access toolbar.

Thanks again. The IT guy found an "extra" hospital copy of Word 2002 and loaded it, so that's what I am going to use for now and maybe ease in to using 2007. Thank goodness for the IT guy, and for your responses Cheryl and Tonks.
Hope you all have a great day.

You're very welcome. You'll be much happier with 2002.
