At the recent AHDI meeting, I was able to speak with Gary David from Bentley College in Waltham, MD. Gary and his colleague are doing a survey about the world of medical transcription. I have to say I found him to be credible and someone who simply gets it where we are concerned. His studies will be promoted and used to really provide an understanding of our work and our industry. I would encourage all of you to go and take this survey. It took me less than 15 minutes to complete and will assist in assuring that he gets a broad range of input. You can find the survey here:

Done! \:\)

He left out "MTSO employee" as an option when asked about job roles. There were only options for independent contractor, healthcare institution employee, and MTSO owner.

Thanks for telling us about this, Kathy!

That was great. I said that voice recognition should only be used to train poor dictators to dictate better!

Thanks Kathy. I have gone ahead and made this one a sticky note so it will stay up top for a bit to be sure folks see it.

Oh! Oh! I'll play. That was fun!

My favorite personal entry...

We're not typists. You actually have to have a skill set to do this. As SRT is used more and more, those who do straight transcription (for the non-SRT-compatible practitioner) will be even more specialized and have greater skills and experience. The true MT (not SRT editor) will be worth more not less.

And anyone who thinks editing SRT is easier or takes less time than straight transcription has no idea how to do this job, how horrible the technology still is, and has listened to a load of bull from a software technician.

Darn't if you aren't right ... I am real surprised nobody told this guy that many offsite MTSOs only hire employees, not ICs, when he was putting these questions together.

And we didn't even have to make a donation to actually take it!

I just took the survey, and MTSO employee is now an option along with the others.

Yep, you beat me to it. I had talked to Kathy last evening and she said she had seen that note about it and had explained to the guy how come it needed to be added. Isn't technology a marvellous thing sometimes \:\)
