I'm a former Hoosier. Does that count? \:D I think there are a couple of us on the board. I'll let them pipe up for themselves, though.

Whew, that was a good storm last night (Wednesday 15,2007). It seemed to hit all around us. We did get lots of rain and wind. Plus, the tornado sirens were going off. Did you get hit by the storm last night?
Heading out tomorrow to take son to college, will be back the beginning of next week.

Oh, you're killing me. One of the things I miss about Indiana is the storms! And you got tornado sirens to boot?! I really want to see a "live" tornado. I almost did the last time I was there. The day after our arrival, there were strong storms and some tornados. On our way somewhere, I looked in the field next to us and saw a small funnel form! It went back up just as quickly, but you can bet I was excited! So was my mom; after I yelled "We have rotation!", she floored it.

Back to school already? It seems to be earlier every year!

Unfortunately we got that storm on the 15th. We were on the edge of it but still got hammered. Had a whopper of one go through last night as well. I would love IN if it weren't for the storms, humidty, and mosquitos LOL. And yep we have tornado sirens. They also double as the 12:00 siren for lunch time and the 5:00 siren, which I think is for happy hour

I live in central Indiana, and I happen to love the storms! I like the tornados, too, as long as they aren't too close. We had one in maybe 2002 that hit just about every school in our school system, but not a single person was hurt. It literally hit buildings all over the southern Indy area. You could track the path by the damage. Glad to know there are so many Hoosiers on the board! I'm a big fat newbie. Don't know how to use all the bells and whistles yet.

Welcome, Kimmie. I know just what tornado you are talking about. I was so mad I missed it, and it was my birthday too! I had moved to France just the month before. I probably wouldn't have seen it anyway, since I lived on the Northside and this happened down near Greenwood. Sigh. I so miss storms. Our area has some zingers once in a while, but they are small and move quickly through the area. Plus there really are no good open spaces around me that allow me to get a good view of the entire storm and the entire lightning bolt.

But I can't complain! It's rainy here, but it's 70. I sure don't miss the heat and humidity. I'm sympin' (sympathizing) with ya.

Do you happen to have basements? I do and I am stuck with water in the basement again. The power went out for 10 hours yesterday and we had a nice surprise in our basement, WATER. Off to vacuum up some water now.
Looks as though we are in for more rain too. GEEZ!

I no longer live in Indiana, but I understand there have been areas getting lots of rain, not to mention high temps! It's been raining a lot here in France, and I am still trying to figure out if the wet area on the basement/garage floor is from the rain coming in from somewhere or if the washer leaked.

We do have a basement, but our house is only a year old, so no leaks...yet. Hopefully it will stay that way! We do, however, have a small leak in our *new* roof! Not the dripping kind, but the small, spreading, stain kind.

HoosierFemme-That tornado was a doozie. I think it was on the ground for almost an hour, or something close to that. I was in my basement crying and basically freaking out, because my two daughters, who were 6 and 10 at the time, were at school. Their power was out, and everyone had to go pick up their kids. It was a mess! When I got there, I started crying because some of the cars in the parking lot had their windows blown out, the trees were knocked down, and the house across the street had been hit. Basically there was damage on all sides of the building, but none to the building itself. It made me realize how lucky we were and how close it had come. I felt guilty for having a basement to cower in!

Near Purdue here. We have had so much rain that my pool has almost overflowed. Oh well. It is almost time to drain it anyway!!

Yeah, I remember hearing it was a strong one. I'm not sure, but this may have been the same one that trapped another Hoosier poster here, NiteNinja, in a freezer at work. I think if that happened to me, I'd not be as excited about tornadoes. I had a similar experience to yours when I lived in Virginia. I was heading to work and all of a sudden the traffic got really heavy, even for a Friday afternoon. The closer I got to work, the more I started seeing tree branches and such. Turns out a tornado had passed through, and it had jumped over our restaurant and taken the roof off the flea market right across the street. Born and bred Hoosier, and the closest I get to being in a tornado is in VIRGINIA.

I happen to know that at our local Domono's Pizza several of the employees were forced to take cover in the freezer...wonder if that could be the same freezer? The store was destroyed. I didn't know Virginia had tornadoes.

By the way, this is off the subject, but I am curious to know how you ended up in France? If that is too personal, forget I asked. We can chalk it up to my being a newbie, and move on!
