I recently spoke with a hospital CMT supervisor about applying with them. She stated their pay was based on minutes. For instance, their day is usually 90 minutes of dictation times 11. How much would a person earn per day based on that?

I think you are going to have to provide a bit more information.

I can't tell from your post if they require each MT to do 90 minutes per workday and pay 11 cents per minute or what. If that is the case, the math would be simple.

Get back to us with a clarification?

That would be the case as I understand it.

OK, then 90 x 0.11 = $9.90, so I'm doubting this highly. I think you need to get with that supervisor to get a better understanding, where YOU can understand it, of how your would be paid.

As a former department director here is how it works:

They are working on the formula that the dictated minute equals about 11 lines. This would be right in the ballpark because ops usually work out to about 14 lines per dictated minute and other types of reports with the exception of pathology and radiology work out to about 10 lines or so per dictated minute. A good average would be about 12.5, but you are probably going to have to answer phones and deal with other distractions, so they have given some leeway for extraneous issues you will deal with including time for breaks, lunch, research, etc. So to compute how much you would make in a day multiply the rate she told you they pay per minute times 90 and then divide by 8 to figure your hourly rate. If you want to figure out what they are paying per line, their minimum is about 990 lines per day based on the formula I outlined above.

Hmmm. Yet another voodoo compensation method to avoid.
