I work for Medquist now and like so many others, I am at my wits end with all of the garbage. The stuff they leave for us is just pure slop. Not able to understand a single word, no primary and my secondary is sooooo gone. I just cry everyday. I am scared to log on now. I put in for Webmedx and they said they would call me so does anyone know what shifts they want or is it just for speeh editing? Is Webmedx good company? I also have heard from a small IC company called Advanced Transcription but then again it is small and IC so now I must wait and see. If anyone has applied recently to Webmedx could you let me know what they are asking and what they want to hire?

I think they are looking for FT Tue to Sat or something like that. Not all work is speech editing. My sister works at Encompass and loves it. They have a web site.

I am starting with Webmedx on August 6 and have a contact person if you would like her name. I am very pleased with my interviewers and the caliber of people that have contacted me. PM me if you would like. Sandifae

I, too, am starting with Webmedx on August 11. I'll be working days, Tuesday through Saturday, but they have a great pay incentive for working 2nd or 3rd shift. Just didn't work out for me. I'm much more of a morning person. I've been with Spheris for 4 years, but the change in insurance coverage there this year was a huge disappointment, and I finally had to look elsewhere.

Man, can I identify. I cried every day since the last week of June! I left MQ 7/27, started WMX 7/30 (trained the week before). You won't find a nicer group of people, I'll tell ya that much. I am very happy so far, getting up to speed and all that. However, with all the changes at MQ in the last month, I am already producing as much with WMX as I did with MQ in the end.

So get out there if you're ready. There are lots of great companies out there that remember who makes their $$ -- US! I would definitely pursue WMX if you're given the chance. It seems that they have been getting flooded with prospects from MQ in the last month, and I'm not kidding.

Hi! I applied recently for Webmedex and went through all their gyrations answering the many questioned questionnaire only to find out they are paying 7 cents a line! I said no thanks! I'm worth more than that. I'm a Tier 2 so maybe that was why. I'm going to be working PT for Medquist starting 8/25. I'm sorry it's been so bad for you. I've heard that about them giving really bad accounts. What shift do you work? My old company, Centura Health, was just outsourced to MQ and they've promised (??) to put me on their account. I have a FT position with a fertility clinic so if it doesn't work out with MQ it's no sweat. "More will be revealed." Good luck! with your job search; no job is worth crying over. BTW: I applied at Acusis. Here is their info:
Acusis
Santa Clara, CA 95054-2434
Toll Free: (800) 372-7710

Accounts are teaching hospitals like Stanford and the pay is good. xd

You are the first person to say that they start off at only 7 cents an hour. I was told by one of the recruiters there that start pay at Webmedx was 8.25 or 8.50, can't remember which one, but it was one or the other. Are you sure it was Webmedx and if so, how long ago was it?

All of the nationals make initial offers based on what the recruiter thinks they can get away with. There is no set starting compensation package, nor is there any requirement for one.

Actually, starting pay at Webmedx depends on what type of work and which level you fall under.

Oh, I see. So it is basically what type or work you do, acute care, radiology etc. Is that how it goes?

Gigi, that and how well you do on their testing.

ETA: I started at more than 7 cpl for ER work. I believe 7 cpl is some of the clinic work, but I am not positive about that. I've had friends offered anywhere from 8-9 cpl for acute care, depending on their experience and their ability/willingness to do heavy ESL accounts.

I, too, turned down WMX's offer. They also decided to pay me less than MQ and I can't afford to take yet another pay cut. Above someone said they usually start out at 0.0825 or 0.0850, i didn't even get that. Not going to say what I was offered, but it was below that. I have been doing this for 12 years and make more than the above two amounts also. Can't do it, and I was REAL EXCITED about WMX, too. Oh well, guess it was just not my time to leave MQ.

Right now I would take 7 CPL for straight transcription versus the crappy ASR rates at MQ. Since I was taken off my good hospital account for whatever reason, my ASR line rate is not much better than my transcribing rate and it has a 70% reduction in pay, which equals 5.6 CPL for me and considering 3/4 of my work is ASR, that is a significant difference at the end of the pay period. I am looking for a new transcription position and would rather not do any more voice recognition editing at that low of a line rate unless they come out with much better voice recognition technology so you can actually get in the lines they claim you can.

Challis: I applied at WMX. I don't think it would be wise for me to say what they offered me, but it was at the higher end. I have a broad base of knowledge though, having done multiple specialties, with 18 years of experience, including extensive ESL.

MQ has 3 tiers, WMX has 5 levels. I was hired as level 4.

Kelmike: Did you attempt to barter with the recruiter? I'm curious to know because I had hoped for a higher cpl with my years of experience, and was considering attempting to barter up the wage. I decided against it because everything else about the company was what I was looking for, and I didn't want to lose the offer.

Anyone: I will say though that you can move up the skill levels. With 5 levels of MT there is room to grow. One thing job-seeking MTs considering WMX (or any other company) might consider is that if you start at a lower level, you will most likely have easier work, thereby attaining the line count you want. Even if you take a cpl cut in pay, bonus is paid on average lines per hour. Then, you can ask to have exposure to one new specialty at a time. Each new specialty you learn puts you closer to the next level. (For those of you who work for MQ (which is where I came from) you can't ask for specific work to be routed to you to learn. You get what you get. It didn't use to be that way though. Years ago...I mean Y-E-A-R-S ago I asked my manager if I could learn specialties by being routed multiple reports every day until I learned it. She agreed, and it was, by far, the wisest thing I have ever done in my career.

When I interviewed with WMX I asked the recruiter this specific question. If I am having trouble learning an account, can I request to be routed multiple reports of one dictator at a time to learn them? That was a big deal to me, as it is what helped to give me the skill that I have. She said that it would be possible, that it was something that I would work out with my service team manager.

Anyway...I think I started rambling there. I hope I was of benefit to someone though.

I tested last month with WebMedX, both for level 3 and level 4. Level 3 (Ortho) - did great on the written, but bombed out badly on the oral exam with 3 wrong.

Level 4 (Clinic/Heavy ESL) - I aced the written and oral exams and was made an offer.

The joke is they offered me 7 cpl to start Level 4, and pushed the incentive pay as if it was some great payout. Even with the incentive pay, it was still less than what I was making as a part timer with a 500 line minimum daily. Aside from the low offer from the recruiter for a mainly ESL account, I also didn't like hearing that I'd have to work a Tues-Sat day shift.

I wasn't in the mood to sell myself short just to say I have a job!!! or accept a schedule I already wasn't happy about and decided to thank them for the offer and look elsewhere.

Anyway, in happier news...
- I have 1 position that I've accepted (Mon-Fri, 6 hours a day min, 800 lines minimum and a very decent starting salary). Just waiting for them to get me set up after Labor Day.
- A little bird told me tonight that I should be receiving a call from her company's recruiter by the end of this week with an offer. I had given up on them as a prospect seeing as I tested with them last month and heard nothing.

Gosh, wish me luck please folks, still out of work and awaiting paychecks that will never arrive...but I've had 2 nice vacations in the meantime.

Wow. I was hired with Webmedx over 3 years ago (since have left) and at that time had just 2 years' experience. I was offered 0.08 then!

What the heck??

Are they still hiring ICs? The story changes every time I bring this up, but the last time I spoke with my old boss they were hiring at 0.850 and if you did 3000 lines per week you received 0.10. Am I writing these right? I still get confused!! LOL.

I just can't believe how these companies go down on pay rather than up. Wish the cost of living did the same.

Meri

I think they all just offer .07 until someone takes it. Too bad they will (hopefully) lose out with lost accounts because of poor quality.

One can dream, right!?
