Love/Hate Relationship?

Hello everyone,
I have been poking about this forum (and others) for a week or so, trying to gain as much information about medical transcription as I can. I have found so much at MTchat; it can be a little overwhelming. If I do take the plunge, I have definitely decided to attend Andrews or M-Tec, so no worries on that front. MT sounds much more challenging than it did when I started looking into it--which is a good thing, at least to me. It also sounds as if it is often extremely frustrating. I am looking for feedback about why you love MT/hate MT; what might you tell me that I wouldn't think to ask? I know that's pretty open-ended! Also, are you able to make a decent living in this career? (I'm not not hoping to get rich quick--I'll trust the lottery to do that for me  ).
Sometimes I wish there was a 'sorting hat' for life's big decisions...

Love it: Get a good doc and your on a roll.
Hate it: Get the bad doc and it screws up your paycheck.
All in all, would not choose anything different!

Love the freedom in scheduling that comes with being an IC.
Hate Dr. Mushmouth and Dr. Can't-speak-a-coherent-sentence-to-save-his-life.  That can be blown out of proportion or lessened by my attitude, though. Dr. Can't-speak-a-coherent-sentence-to-save-his-life is on his way down to just an annoyance through sheer repetition of listening to him.

Love:
Learning new things all the time.
Taking my cat to work.
Typing.
Doing a job and doing it well.
The medical field.
Getting paid.
Health insurance.
Faster-than-a-speeding-bullet-and-mumbling PAs because of my Instant Text (change the chief complaint, age, and gender and I'm good to go).
These great folks at MT Chat and mIRC.
Hate:
Sitting down for so long!
Fifty sore throat reports in a day.
Voice recognition (thank goodness I quit THAT job).
Faster-than-a-speeding-bullet-and-mumbling PAs the first time around.
Speakers who will spell "deep" but will not spell the 30-character-long chemo drug.

Cheryl, you sound like you will do well and that you have a good understanding of the nature of this work.
I love transcription with a passion! It is challenging, rewarding, and sometimes even entertaining, but nothing beats the personal satisfaction in knowing you are playing a role (albeit behind the scenes) in the very serious business of providing accurate, quality documentation of a patient's health care.
I have cried at the birth of a baby, cried at the death of a patient, giggled with the doctor over something humorous, and prayed all the way through reports where my heart has just gone out to a patient.
I personally went to Andrews, and I am eternally grateful for the education I received there. You can't go wrong with either Andrews or M-TEC. With that foundation and the great attitude it sounds like you have, you can't go wrong. 
Being able to have the doggies at my feet is the icing on the cake.

I actually love the VR!
Love: Being able to work OT whenever I feel like it.
No commute.
Hate: The way it has messed with my back.
Dorky docs who couldn't put together a sentence if their life depended on it.

Thank-you everyone for the replies. Sally, the aspect of being emotionally involved with what happens to patients is something I hadn't thought about.
I want to do something that makes me feel useful, even if it is one part in the overall picture. I would have considered a career in the medical field before; however, I am a squeamish one! My sister is training to be a Pathologists' Assistant, which is fascinating, but the thought of performing gross sets off my "ick" bells.
