Medquist email - Pay changes

Did anyone get the email from MQ stating they are cutting ME pay to 70% of base from the current 80%. We will all be receiving letters next week. I am so upset that they are cutting this. I just increased my hours because I needed more money and now I will be working more but making pretty much the same. They are pushing for everything to go to ASR, but then we get paid less.
I do like the quarterly bonus (I think) that they will be coming out with.
Anyone else receive this and have an opinion?

Good question. I have never had a problem with MQ before. They claim it is to remain competitive. I would think paying more would be competitive not less. I have been with MQ for 5 years.

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but what is ME pay -- is it for editors or?
Thanks

I'm old. I've had many jobs. I would NEVER accept a pay decrease.
Period.

Competitive apparently means for their clients. I agree, why do people stay? I know people need work and get comfortable with the work, but this is insulting. It says loud and clear - we don't have any respect for you or your skills. Just imagine if all the MTs just quit working all at once in protest?

I can't think of any other profession that would cut pay. Companies have so little respect for MTs. It's why I quit Spheris.

i have been with MQ for 7-1/2 yrs and am really upset about the quarterly bonuses. i bust my butt for daily incentive. i always have. i have never received a quarterly bonus and don't particularly wish to. the drop to 70% is BS, but i can take that. never received the e-mail, have no clue where all my e-mails from MQ go. don't have internal MQ mail, that could be why. will get ahold of my PS tomorrow and see what the heck is going on.

I used to get quarterly bonuses when I was statutory. I made pretty good money with bonuses. They are coming up with the quarterly bonus so everyone is elibible. It will be better I think because it will make up for a bad day. The other day I only got 700 lines in 7.5 hours because most of them were OPs (which I am still learning) and ESL docs and it took me forever to go through those reports. The quarterly bonus I think will help make up for days like this.
They are also discontinuing difficult dictator premiums. That I do not agree with. It was comforting to know that if I came across one of these dictators there was a little something added for my troubles. I still do not like my pay being decreased 10%.

I had one spectacularly bad report and a series of really lousy ones last pay period. I also got 16 cents in difficult dictator pay. Whoopee!

I'm with Kelmike. I've been with MQ for almost 7 years and I have been statutory and employee. I hated the MT/ME "Rewards" plan and almost quit then, but this is the last straw. Regarding the 10% pay cut for ME pay, I was told by my PS, when I called to protest (yeah, like THAT'S gonna help) that the industry standard is 50%, so we're so lucky here at MQ. Anyone know if that's true?
And the quarterly bonus? That, as Kelmike said, really has me chapped. That means I have to lower my cost of living IMMEDIATELY in order to make up for the HUGE chunk this will take out of my paycheck EVERY time, no doubt to keep profits in the bank longer to gain interest. BTW, it's effective 7/1, per my PS, not that they bothered to mention that in the email. And the reason for this change; per my PS, it's uh ...., uhh ....
So gird your loins, MQ MTs! Your 7/25 paycheck is about to be significantly smaller than you had planned on (and your 8/10 check, your 8/25 check, your 9/10 check ...)

I worked there for a year, and when the "Rewards" started, I decided it was time to reward myself and find a company that cares about their employees. You know what I found out? There are LOTS of companies out there that treat their employees like they are the most valued asset in the world, and you know what else? It's a great feeling!!! You couldn't get me back to work for MQ for all the money in the world. They are one of the worst places I've ever worked when it comes to communication, pay and just plain overall treatment. I don't know about you, but I knew I deserved better than that after all the hard work I put in learning medical transcription! MQ? Phooey!

I'm still scratching my head wondering why anyone would stay. Seriously.
AnnR, you are a true master of wordcraft and your services are wasted doing factory work. Seriously.
catlover (and any others this 'reduction' affects), MQ is telling you that your value to them has dropped by ANOTHER 10%. You either agree with them about your worth or you don't.
Bonuses are the most-easily-manipulated of all the voodoo computations for compensation out there, and as the time frame gets longer the computations get more 'fuzzy'. If you are counting on a bonus to smooth the ride or (gasp) to make the rent, then you have already lost. Money, time, effort and self-respect. Oh yes, I can hear it now: "I need the benefits." "I hate having to pay my own taxes." "<insert other generic reason here>." Stand up, don't let fear of change paralyse you, find another company like SO MANY HAVE, and retrieve your dignity.
Again, you either agree with them about your worth or you don't.

I have to agree with tropsicle on this. Ann you always answer all of the more difficult questions on the board, and you always have sufficient data and/or sites to back it up. You are an excellent MT/ME, and can be working anywhere you want to. If I were you, I would change jobs in a heartbeat. The rest of you should change also. I am sure all of you are competent workers. I emphasized on Ann because her expertise in the MT business is shown everyday on this board with the questions she answers. There are a lot of MT companies that would be glad to have any of you. Because I have only worked for 2 companies, I am not an expert on which company would be best, but I am sure they would be better than MQ and it's pay decrease, among other things I have read in posts about this company. It seems like they are always doing something to show that they definitely do not value their employees.

Hi! Gals, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your astute input. I have been reading all weekend. I work(ed) for a large hospital corp and they just announced we are all laid off as of 9/1. They are outsourcing us to MQ. We have the opportunity (say our corporate suits) to go to work for MQ at a comparable rate. I make over 40,000 now and as I calculate a per line rate, even with the lines I type which are good, I don't see how I can do it. What is a good service to apply to? I've never worked for one. I've always worked in hospitals, a dying breed as I see now. Thanks! Hope it's okay I posted here. dd

Cheers and applause for you Trop, you are so right!
Gals, there is no reason to put up with the way you are being treated by MQ. There are many other "nationals" and smaller MTSO's out there that treat their MTs with respect and never fail to let you know how valuable you are. I know Webmedx would LOVE to have some of you here, as would OSI and others. There truly are wonderful companies out here gals! Please stop being "afraid of change" and get the heck out while you can. Honestly, after you get through that first week or two with a "new" company you will never regret your move!
You are good MT's! You are a valuable person!! You deserve to be treated with respect instead of like a typist off the street!
ETA: Companies like MQ won't change until they lose their good MT's and start losing account after account because of it!

How I wish you were right! Unfortunately - the reality is - they'll go hire the off-shore MTs - and then they'll be the loudest voices out there talking about how "there are no Americans who want this job!!!!"

They claim it is to remain competitive
This team contribution towards remaining competitive extends to the suits, yes?
