The AIM Program Begins Its 2nd Year!

Allstate Transcription proudly introduces the AIM Program, now beginning its 2nd year of helping MTs transition into the workplace. The AIM Program is a 12-week apprenticeship/internship/mentoring program available only to newly graduated MT students or former MTs wanting to transition back into the field of medical transcription. In order to quality, interested applicants must reside in the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) or Canada and must pass our assessment test with a grade of 90% or better.
To celebrate our 2nd year, the AIM Program now offers a paid internship for MTs consistently producing reports at 98% or better accuracy during the last 2-4 weeks in the program. This new change allows the MT to earn while they learn – being paid from 2 to 4 cents per line for transcribing and editing medical reports for one of several national MT companies. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the MT will be offered a position Allstate Transcription.
Allstate has devoted a substantial amount of time and resources into the development of this program. As part of the program, the work completed by the MTs will be proofed to ensure that 98% accuracy is maintained and feedback will be given. We believe the feedback is the key to helping an MT improve their skills and increase their accuracy.
Here are some of the requirements for the program:
• High-speed Internet access (DSL or cable) – satellite and dialup will not work • Current anti-virus with auto updates • Willingness to use IM - Instant Messaging (Yahoo or MSN) • A 9-pin (DB9/serial foot pedal) • Microsoft Word 2000 or 2003 (not 2007 or 2002) with all current Microsoft Windows updates
There is no fee for the services provided during the internship but there is a one-time $99 enrollment fee due before an MT can begin the program. This fee is paid at the time the Internship Agreement is signed and returned. For more information about the AIM Program, please visit our website at: http://www.aimprogram.info.

Isn't this just an ad? A poor ad, but an ad all the same. Paying 99 dollars to work, refundable or not, is stupid. In fact, anyone that goes to school and then has to work for 2 to 4 cpl is stupid. Isn't the reason we go to school in the first place so that we can work for more money than a burger flipper?

This might be helpful for "grads" of the matchbook schools or other schools that just didn't prepare them for the MT world. I'm sure they will get no takers from Andrews School or M-Tec.

I agree, Deb. This is just an insult. Well, I guess they got their free advertising. I was just watching a TV program the other evening which again emphasized to people that they should NEVER have to pay to work for someone. Nothing. Nadda. Zilch.
End of story.

Do you honestly think that they will be able to afford to work for free or for peanuts as described if they couldn't afford to pay for a reputable school to begin with? Do you think they will really try for free or while getting 2-4 cents per line? Disgusting!

To clarify...
The 2-4 cpl is for a voice recognition account and that line rate is only during the AIM Program. Once hired after successful completion of the AIM Program, the line rate increases.

Well -- I guess I could point out that AHDI seems to think MTs need to serve a 2-year internship/apprenticeship or at least that is the way their jointly run MTIA/AHDI program literature reads, for which I seem to remember MTs need to be paid something like $7.50 an hour or some such commensurate amount from the moment they enter the program ... so why would anyone want to intern for 2 or 4 cents for only the last couple of weeks and pay $99 on top of that for the right to work for free for weeks when they could be doing much better with a different program?
I dunno something does not sound quite right about this one, but since only RMTs who have graduated from one of the "approved schools" can qualify for that particular MTIA/AHDI program right now (certainly a rather limited amount of folks I would think for a while) maybe this version is meant to take up the slack as it were ... (yes, that was tongue in cheek, I forgot I don't have the smilie doohickies to choose from in the quick reply).
In any case, yes I would say this was an advertisement, but Annie probably needs to make the decision on this one ... it might not be a bad idea to let it run so that folks realize there are other options out there for new MTs that don't include "paying for the privilege of ..." (the only smilie I can remember the code for offhand).

People whose MT education isn't sufficient for them to get a job really don't have too many choices. I think some will choose this ($99 and working for free for awhile) rather than start all over again and spend the money for Andrews or M-Tec (although that would be the best thing to do if you want to be a good MT).

Yes, I got that from your post and completely understood. I think it is still disgusting.

You're overlooking the fact that many of those with insufficient educations couldn't remedy that with the Andrews or M-Tec courses even if they wanted to. Both those schools have an entrance test that requires some basic competence in English to pass. Many of the graduates from schools with no entrance standards pretty much have a choice of falling victim to all the MT scams out there, dragging down average wages in the industry and client's opinions of the average transcriptionist's intelligence as they do, or moving on to some other "quick and easy" way to make money from home.

probably should have been in the classifieds, but then just think of the interesting conversation we'd all be missing out on.

TO Editscript_Mt I sent you a pm and I also emailed your program directly from the AIM website a few days ago. Haven't heard back from you.

Eh, probably not....a public posting of "haven't heard back from you" isn't all that positive when it comes to feedback, doncha know. ;)

Cripes, editing VR could be more time consuming than something transcribed by a good MT.
Increases to what, 6 cpl?
Rae <wondering why exact versions of Word are so important and grateful she doesn't have to have five different ones in order to work>
To clarify...
