Can you tell me why Andrews School is not on the approved list on the AHIMA site? I am trying to decide where to get a coding education. The information here I have read on Andrews is impressive, but I want to be sure the world out there will respect where I received my education also. Does the respect go beyond this website? I read that you are trying to be the best school. Do employers look at that list and does it matter? Andrews grads, how is it out there? Redpen? Linda? The instructors and supportive atmosphere is swaying me towards Andrews. I am just checking every doubt. Thank you!

Most of our graduates successfully take the CCS exam, not just the CCA, right out of school.
Employers very much prefer credentialed coders. If you have a CCS or a CPC, that gets the attention of most employers. Most schools do not prepare students for those exams. That is in our favor. If you are credentialed, that speaks volumes. I do plan to get my approval application turned in to AHIMA. It would mean something to me personally more than it would for our graduates. The training would be the same, but I would be proud to display that approval. In order to do that, I need to add another week to every month. ;) It is on my "To-Do" list.

So, Linda, it's not necessary for a school to be on the AHIMA approved list for graduates to sit for the AHIMA exam?

That's right. Our graduates usually do test for the CCS or CCS-P after they graduate. Some prefer to do CCS through AHIMA and CPC through AAPC. In fact, our graduates tend to do very well with credentials through both organizations.

There are no requirements whatsoever to take either the AHIMA or AAPC coding certification exams. AAPC requires 2 years of experience before they will grant the full certification, but you can take the test prior to that and get an apprentice credential.
AHIMA only requires attendance at an accredited school program for the RHIT and RHIA credentials.
