I had a surgeon once who stopped dictating and yelled to someone, "What do you call that thing, what's the name of that thing we put in him?"

Doctor adding to list of over a dozen diagnoses... "Oh, go back to the list of diagnoses and add another one. Funguria. That's a good one. It sounds juicy."

From a delivery note today: "Amniotomy performed; mild meconium was noted, cervix 6 cm. Approximately an hour later, baby was complete."

that's the whole idea--he meant to say dramatic, but clearly said "traumatic" instead TWICE.
Dr. Aflacduck is somewhat of a malaprop.

I have a doc that drops words all of the time. He just said, "Chief complaint: Patient requests pregnancy."
Is that legal?

Wheezes and Crackers, sounds like a good book title! Thanks for the laughs.

LOL. I've heard of pendulous but that is ridiculous!

I had a doc today who I am pretty sure was listening to a taped reading of a Harry Potter book while she was dictating. I could hear entire phrases every once in awhile. At first it was pretty annoying, but then it started to be more amusing once I figured out what she was listening to.

I used to have a PA or NP who listened to gangsta rap while he dictated. He'd frequently pause and rap under his breath along with the CD. After hearing a bunch of non-family-friendly words I finally figured out what it was. Until then I thought he was cussing about something in the chart. LOL. He didn't last too long after that all started. I always wondered what happened to him. I'd catch a phrase or two and then Google it to see what was in the CD player for the day.

I transcribed this recently: "The patient is allergic to cat, c-a-t, hair, h-a-i-r". This doc spells out a lot of words (about one third of the time incorrectly), but I never thought I'd hear him spell "cat".

I used to transcribe for a doctor in a general practice clinic who would do his dictation at home. At least three times a week, his dictation would also include his 9-year-old daughter attempting to practice playing the saxophone. The operative word there is "attempting," if you catch my drift.
