How many Colorado MTs do we have? I know that Gisele is in Colorado, and I am... I would love to hear if there are more of us.

Hi Ibanmt! Thanks for answering. I've been an MT for four years and have a lot of other things going on, too, and I'm at the point of wanting to connect with other MTs.

Speaking of CO and all the places you guys mentioned, did you get through the tornadoes today?

I have a few rehab facilities I type for over there and was ?? what actually got it.

They weren't anywhere near me. I hope everyone here was safe! I bet Joanne would have been closest to them. The news last night said the one that went through Windsor and up toward Fort Collins was probably an F3. They said the one that went through Holly last year and killed two people was also an F3.

Hi All,

I'm in Colorado Springs, and am considering a career in MT. Can any of you tell me where you went to school and how you found your first job? Thanks.

Hi mbphilly! I'm sorry I missed your post and several others on here.

I found my first job by word of mouth. An acquaintance told me of a local doc whose transcriptionist was going through a lot of personal stress and could not keep up with the dictation. With my stomach in a twist, I faxed him some samples and my resume, and he called me to come in for an interview. He was at the point of desperation but did not want to go the route of sending his work overseas as his partner was doing. Also, he had sent some sample dictation to a large national transcription company and was not at all happy with the quality of what was returned to him. (It was quite instructional for me when he dug in his trash can and gave to me the sheets of dictation that had been returned by the national company! I still have them in my file as souvenirs!!) I told him the first tape would be on a trial for both of us, and let me tell you, it was very tough, as he is a fast talker with parts of words missing everywhere. He worked with me, though, and slowed down a bit until I could get the hang of his way of talking.

After gaining experience with his work, I then answered an internet job ad for a small transcription company out of state and have been working for them now for a couple of years, as well.
