Which Drug Book do you recommend?

I've used Saunder's Pharmaceutical, Saunder's Drug Handbook for Health Professions, Quick Look Drug Book, and QLDB Electronic.
Not entirely sure if I am happy with QLDB to purchase the 2007, but I definitely will not purchase electronic version again. Saunder's Pharmaceutical is okay, but not the book to use when you need to confirm dosages. Saunder's Drug Handbook I really like, but you must know generic names in order to use.
Anyone use American Drug Index? Mosby's Medical Drug Reference? Any others to recommend I look into?

I have always preferred the internet searches, such as the FDA site or RXlist, although the later has become funky, as stated in another recent thread.
The best factor? Free

I have Saunders but find I tend to use this more http://browse.drugs.com/ It lets you search by condition as well.

Thank you for that excellent link. I don't like drugs.com, so ever since Rxlist messed up their format, I've been shopping around for a new backup drug resource.
I use Quick Look, but I have the 2005 edition and just add updates manually every month. I've heard horror stories about the new format of Quick Look, so I've been hesitant to buy that. As far as the 2005 version of QLEDB, you can search content and within search results, which is nice. I still don't have the hang of the shortcuts and the wildcards, but even with my limited skills, I usually find what I want all right. The only bummy thing that I can think of is that the user added database and the stock database cannot be merged.

How do you get the electronic versions of these drug books and how do you download them??

Saunder's Pharmaceutical is okay, but not the book to use when you need to confirm dosages.
Why do you say that? The book includes dosages in a compact format to save space because it has more drugs than any other drug book on the market. The preface explains how to read the dosage information. Are you looking for something like how many to take and how often or do you really mean the dosage?

I've had better luck finding those drugs I'm unfamiliar with by doing a search at the FDA, then confirming in Saunders (which I do like best for its format.)
Ellen, there are times that the PWB doesn't supply the information I need-such as confirming a dosage I think I'm hearing (a multiple of a single tablet dose) so I look to QL for that information, since it gives more details regarding that (for example, maximum dosing.) That might be what Asugar meant.

Thanks, Termie, for the feedback. I wish we could put everything MTs need into the book, but with the number of drugs we include, that would make the size and cost prohibitive.

We use the Pharmaceutical Word Book. Most of my graduates keep updating it regularly after they graduate. I believe it's the best for our purposes. I've personally used every drug book I've ever heard of, but I always ended up with Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book, or as many of us like to call it, the Drake & Drake.

Thanks, Linda, for the plug. It's been rough this year, for Randy and me, with an electronic product that we were disappointed with. The "patch" did help, and I think the electronic version works pretty well now--on the PC anyway; the patch didn't work on the Mac (which is what Randy & I use). We're guardedly optimistic about the functionality of the 2008 electronic version which is being developed by a different, U.S.-based programmer.

Ellen, I apologize if my comments above made it sound like that's what I thought you should do-no, no, NO!! I love the book just the way it is. It's the only one I update yearly (I will update my QL every couple/three years.) I love the PWB format, love the s/l suggestions, it's easy to use, and 95 times out of 100 it's the only one I need.

I found that the QL gave much more information than I ever needed, requiring me to turn too many pages to find what I was looking for. Then, when I found it, it would frequently tell me to "see such and such, page whatever," causing me to start turning pages again! 
I LOVE my Drake & Drake !

I second that on Drake & Drake. It really is my "bible" and would not be without it. I did not buy the electronic version as I heard of all the problems with it. We'll just wait and see what the next one brings and I'm hoping to be able to get it.

Termie, you have nothing to apologize for! I didn't take offense at all. Randy & I appreciate all the feedback we get. Those who have been purchasing our book over the years have seen how many features we've added/changed in response to the feedback we get. One of the reasons we were so excited about the CD was that it would enable us to give MTs much more of what they needed (although dosing schedules would be very difficult to add at this time) in an easier, faster, more user-friendly format. Since the CD comes from the same database as the book, we won't be able to change certain things (like the way we display dosages) without huge amounts of work, but we do have plans for new features that we think MTs will like. Elsevier is going to put the new programmer in touch with Randy who can "speak the lingo," so hopefully, that will make a difference in the next edition of the CD.

Greetings all!
I have the 2006 QLDB (both CD & paperback) plus the 2007 D&D CD. I find I use the CD versions BOTH, all the time. If I need dosage I go to the QLDB. If it is a drug name - its off to the D&D shortcut. With all the improvements, the D&D is great.
The only thing I would change is being able to relocate it on my screen. I have two screens, one for my shortcuts (RedBook, references, etc.) and other info and one for my Word page I am working on. I keep both drug references minimized on screen one. I don't believe I could work without them both,now. I think they have me a bit spoiled. LOL
Thank you Ebadrake for all your hard work. You have made my life much easier.
