Answering Questions

As touched on in Give an MT an Answer thread – we really try to stay away from just throwing answers out there.

1. This is not a race. This isn’t about seeing who can answer the questions fastest.

2. This is not a contest, There is no prize for having the highest # of posts underneath your name.

3. This site should not be used in lieu of a good reference library – or your own search skills. Please read the Reference Books thread.

4. When you do jump in and answer questions – please be sure you cite your references; i.e., I found this on this site http://www.mtdesk.comnotreal or Dorland’s Dictionary has it as xxxxx – and so on.

5. There is no need to kick someone in the teeth when they come here looking for help. If you feel that they are abusing the generosity of our volunteers here – then just don’t answer. If you feel that it was a simple enough question they shouldn’t have had to ask – then don’t answer. In other words – if you can’t say something nice – don’t say anything at all. Okay – maybe that’s going too far – you don’t have to say “oh, sweetie, I know how hard this is…..here ya go…” but a simple “try xxxxx” is MORE than adequate and ALL that is needed. We don’t need to sugar coat things – but we sure the heck don’t have to be outright cruel/mean.

6. If you feel that someone IS abusing this site – don’t hesitate to point me in the proper direction. If I agree – I have no problems calling a spade a spade – and since I get the last word here – I do not mind pointing people in the right direction and locking a thread so it doesn’t end up looking like a playground fight between 5-year-olds.

7. If you feel someone is posting questions from either school work or tests – again – feel free to let me know. You are free to pose the question yourself to the OP (original poster) – but again – no need to act like a Nazi about it.
