Just thought I'd mention to anyone who is interested that you can purchase Handeze Gloves through Viking Products, which is a discount office supply company.

I just happened to be looking through their catalog for paper or something, and there they were. I didn't expect to see them sold elsewhere, since I thought they were pretty new. Anyway, the price listed is less expensive (either singly or even less for multiple quantities) and I thought someone else might be interested. I'm not talking a whole lot, but every little bit helps and shipping is free on orders over $25.

Well, think I'm gonna have to order a pair and try them out........

Oh yeah, internet site is http://www.vikingop.com

Not sure if these are listed on site, but they will send you a free catalog.

OOps! Sorry, Joann. Handeze gloves are supports for the wrists which are supposed to be made of a material that "massages" and warms the hands, the more you use them. There were some posts on them earlier from people who have actually used them ( supposed to be good for carpal tunnel symptoms?)

As I haven't, I can't vouch for the truthfulness of this, but it sounded good coming from others here. Anyway, they also have a website. I am not sure but I think it is: http://www.handeze.com

I don't think I could work anymore without one of these on my left hand (or without my B6 200 mg q.d. either). I've almost freaked out the couple of times I've misplaced mine, so I always keep a spare now.

When I first started having carpal tunnel problems, I could hardly stand the various splints I got at the drugstore (though I did need more support initially than what Handeze supply). Now that it's mostly under control, these supply just the right amount of mild support. Actually, I cut off the tops just a bit because I don't really like the part up between the fingers and just need mainly the wrist support and the warmth they provide.

Thanks for the site spellchick. At first I thought, what, $19.95! But that's for a pair, and I've been paying $9.95 for just a single one at the drugstores. I also understand that they can be found in some crafts stores too.

And cool, now I can get them in blue! I've only found them in the flesh color before, and those start to looking a little funky after awhile.

So you can consider me one happy user. I would recommend these as just prophylactic support for someone who isn't even having any problems currently.

Thanks Spellchick! The biggest problem I have is in the winter when my hands get like ice. It actually hurts to type when those pinkies are cold. This sounds like a reasonable item to give a try.

Mariette, I agree about the blue. The flesh-colored ones look awfully "therapeutic." The $19.95 directly from Handeze site includes the cost of shipping. Not a bad deal! Soon my flyin' fingers will be blue

I too agree, I have used Handeze for almost two years now (CTS, left wrist). I have been purchasing them at the local pharmacy here as well, only in the flesh color. Blue would be a great change. Thanks for the info. $19.95 for a pair and no shipping is a good buy.

Joann,

A little aside here: The Handeze may help a bit with the cold fingers, as they supply warmth to the wrists and palms, but I myself still have some problems with cold digits (well, I do have Raynaud's).

When I had JRA as a child and teenager, one of my physical therapy exercises was to slowly scrunch and unscrunch a washcloth in a sink filled with warm water. I discovered that I preferred running water (especially with a little aerator on the faucet--kind of a whirlpool effect) and with much hotter water (nearly scalding actually) than what I was instructed to do. I always put my hands under hot, running water for a couple of minutes before starting work now and usually once more during.

Either soaking or putting your hands under running, warm (or fairly hot) water might be another help during those cold and stiff fingers times.

Good luck. I know the feeling.

Mariette,

Good suggestion! Really, it is only a problem for me in the winter when the condo can get pretty chilly at times. Next time it happens (probably not until October now!), I will remember to try your hot-water treatment.
