Susan--

This is the way that I figure it: If I download 60 to 75 minutes of work, and I can type 25 minutes of the dictation in one hour, then it would take about 2-1/2 hours to complete the work for the 60 minutes of dictation. For 75 minutes, using the same formula of typing 25 minutes of dictation per hour, it would take me 3 hours to complete. Keep in mind now, it make longer on some of it than others, depending on the dictator, if you have to stop and look up things, have interuptions, etc.

Hope this helps,
Deborah

I know I read somewhere quite a while ago to plan on 4 to 1, four minutes transcription time for every one minute of dictation or 4 hours for 60 minutes. This is, of course general, and Deborah's sounds reasonable too. If it is dictation you are used to, it will be a lot faster. This takes into consideration having to stop and look up a word, proofing, etc.

Arleen,

There was an article in the Feb. 1, 1999 issue of Advance for Health Information Professionals that said the Industry Standard had been raised to 1:4.9. I saw reference to this in a later issue and could not find my Feb. 1 issue. Do you know who sets these standards?

I also saw somewhere that it is approximately three times the amount of time you are downloading. In other words one hour of dictation, 60 min. will take approximately 3 hours. Of course this always depends on the contents of the material and how well you know the field of medicine you are doing. But I have found it to hold fairly true to my digital system I use.
