As I had it explained to me, when they are doing a D&C, they scrape the lining of the uterus and listen for a specific sound, kinda like as if you were to rub your finger on a balloon to make a noise. I take it that the sound assures that they have gotten all the way to the lining.
I have heard this term, too. Dilatation & curettage? I think it's the noise made when the uterus is evacuated and the curette scrapes along the lining. And always 'good uterine cry'. I searched and searched, no mention to be found. I can only say that I've heard it in dictation, and only on D&C procedures. I always imagine the noise as that of running fingers along guitar strings.

Dude has got the definition correct. LG is right - it is in CMT
quote: cry, uterine - Uterine cry refers to the sound of the uterus as it is being scraped clean of debris, during the curettage. The uterus is a smooth and firm muscle, and once all the lining and debris are removed by sharp curettage, the smooth muscle emits a "cry" when it is clean and smooth once again.
