Patient has evidence of gastroenteritis. She will start Levaquin, 500 mg, p.o., q. day. Her stool will be sent for a C diff.
I know diff is differential but what about the C?
Cell?
Count?
Has anyone ever heard a doc say this?
Thanks
Angie

Diff is not short for differential in this case.

C. difficile or Clostridium difficile often causes gastroenteritis, which would explain the reason for a test to rule it out.

Hope that helps!!!
