Good morning everyone. I was wondering if there were any schools offering federal financial aid? I've come across alot of schools that want alot of money up front. I'm a single mother and can't really afford $500 to $1000 down, and the $400 a month. Can someone point me in a direction. I've done some transcribing, helping out when someone had overflow, I'd like to complete school though. Thank you...Elise

Elise,

Look into Andrews School. Yes, their minimum down is $1000, but the monthly payments are only around $120 a month, and they do not charge interest.

If you were ever going to borrow money for a down payment on anything, this would be a very wise investment. If you get done in a year, you will be working and be able to pay the last year of payments with your MT checks. You can check into signature loans from a bank, or you can check with family members. I know, if it were an option for me, my mother or grandmother would have loaned me the $1000 and deferred repayment for a year until I was done with schooling.

I was a single mother too, so I know how much $120 a month is in your situation. Even doing some babysitting on the side would help make up that money. Time to get creative!

Thank you for your advice. I'll have to get creative and come up with some money making things. Where do I start? hmmm...

Also you could go with M-Tec. I got a loan through Sallie Mae with them and only have to pay $32 a month! Now that I have a great job I can pay more. You don't have to put any money down and you can even borrow more than the school costs (I'm thinking up to 60%) if you wanted to get a new computer or whatever. I would really recommend that !
