quote: PS: You want to see something real scary. Go check out the website at Trans-AM. I don't know if this is new or if I just went visited it before, but this is very very very very scary.
Janice..You are SOOO right on this one about being scary!! I had heard so much, but today was the day I actually went and looked at the site. Unbelievable the lengths some people will go to in order to make a buck..Christian themed, "big bear" of a guy, and she is handicapped???? I'm about to have an emotional infarction!!

This scam has been around for so long, I would hope that anyone who is even thinking about MT would run across all the disclosures on the web (on sites like this) warning people to to stay away.

Just a comment or two on AMA Trans-am: I just read the info page discussing 'big-bear' and his handicapped wife. (the site has changed recently...check it out) Did you really read the biographical statements? She wrote reports that went up in the space shuttles? There were statements that implied she WROTE medical textbooks. (as if her former physician-employers colaborated with HER for the books? ..I wonder if these people and the books even exist?) He is an ordained minister? Of what church or religion? Of the web site in general, the writer's paragraph progression is junior-high-ish, and content statements are not verifiable. Personally, I can not see how anyone can even seriously consider this "school" after reading anything on AMA Trans-am, with their own web page being the most revealing of all. IMO, "Huggy-Bear and his Darling" come across more like Bonnie and Clyde with a touch of Jim and Tammy Faye. Caveat Emptor "Let the buyer beware" kme

One would hope, but there are some other programs that are just a hair above this one and when they are critiqued, we (senior members of the MT community) are told that we are trying to be discouraging to newbies and people who make bad choices. One of the reasons that I continue to post, even though I continue to also get slammed, is that hopefully it will continue to click for some lookieloos that there are problems. Sorry, there is no secret hand-shake (as posted by another unknown new poster) to MT. There is a group of hard working MTs who want to continue to improve the profession and meet with newbies that want to take a short cut. Janice

I also thought the secret handshake comment was off base. It amazes me that if we fail validate their choices, point out possible things to help that we are slapped with those kinds of comments. Deb

What would be great is if someone would make a web page telling the truth about this 'company' that will come up right next to their page. Meri

I have been reading with interest lately (though not posting due to time/techy constraints), and I must admit many of you continue to echo my thoughts! Though I will say this...Maybe we do have a "secret handshake". I believe it is good schooling! Seriously though, I get this attitude from friends too, even my step-son. He thought it was terribly rude of me to not train a coworker's wife so she could "help me out". She could not type, had no medical knowledge, no computer, no word processing skills, no money to invest in equipment, and the list goes on and on. What she DID have was twin five-month-old boys and the desire to work at home. From that point on, I have labeled myself a "transcription snob". Of course, in my family, if a woman is assertive and stands her ground, we are referred to as a bitch. I wear both titles very proudly!!!

Straws, your being a snob or bitch does not come across to me. Your answers reflect kindness, patience and reality. I am trying to think back to when I was going to school and training and remember how I felt. Unfortunately it was too long ago to recall with clarity! I would never, however, snap at a helping hand. Deb, Thanks! Good to know that the info is getting across the way it is intended to be, as helpful, informative and real. I hope I don't come across as either of those two negative things, but it has become an ongoing joke that I am both. I remember standing up to my dad one day (which he was very surprised had happened), and he marched into the living room and told my mother that "your daughter is a bitch" (mind you, these are both my biological parents). She chuckled and said "thank you!" From that day on, I tend to take pride in that label, because all it means to me is that I have a backbone and use it! It took an explanation from my daughter-in-law for my stepson to see that I may ACTUALLY know what I am doing to have the job I have. Of course, I was a single mother when I married his father, and everyone assumed that I was marrying for the money. Put that one to rest when we figured out that I make more than my husband. Although we don't care personally, it certainly did stop the "golddigger" attitude! People can label me whatever they want. It's okay with me. Of course, if you saw what I look like today there is NO WAY anyone would consider me a snob...slob maybe, but definitely NOT a snob! Off to take a shower---yeah!!!! Straws you simply must visit SMT. I am officially the Pissant Queen, but it is truly a term of endearment that I adore. Someone thought that they were insulting me and the rest of the sorority. They were sadly mistaken. Janice

SMT is a newsgroups. I am technically challenged and so do not know how to provide you the address to get there. I am sure that Julie or Nae will post the address. Newsgroups are unmoderated so when they get hot, there is no one to shut the thread down. It is not a place to sugarcoat anything - MT, child rearing or religion. Janice

"Of course, in my family, if a woman is assertive and stands her ground,...." I just had to laugh at this. Much of my family (blood related and in-laws) have the same opinion. You can just see this look they give my husband that says --That woman ain't in her place, Boy!-- Straws, I think you have an excellent attitude.
