It seems like a few weeks ago (not sure on the time frame) I had answered an ad from Karen Meyers Transcription (she said she would hire newbies) and finally received an e-mail back today. All the positions have been filled, but I could contact Linda at AMA or Diane Miller who has a hotmail account. This was the 2nd ad I've seen from Karen, but this is the 1st time I've ever gotten a response from her.

I also responded to an ad placed by Karen and received the same response. Did you know that USA Type is beginning a mentoring program for newbies in May? The pay is .05/cpl.

Thanks for the info about USA Type. I did send them a resume about a month ago, but never heard anything back. Do you know if they are waiting to get in touch with people or should I re-send it?

Michelle, PLEASE do a search for Trans Am. This is a company that has a HORRIBLE reputation and is in all kinds of legal trouble all over the country. If you do the search, you will see why.

I would contact USA Type again in May. That is when the mentor program begins and when I spoke to them they told me to call back in May. I was told that you need to pass with a grade of 98%. I posted here a while ago and was told that it is a good company to work for. They more or less take newbies under their wings and help us with becoming a better MT. Sounds like a good program. I want to try testing with them or either retesting with RIU.
PS Lizzie if you read this, please note that I did use the word 'retest'this time

Thanks Stormy, I'll contact them again in May.

AnnieP. I narrowly escaped the clutches of AMA a few weeks ago. I was ready to send them my money and then I found this site and heeded the warnings of those already burned.
I had responded to a Michelle Powers who had posted jobs for newbies and she was the one who first told me about AMA. It just seemed strange that the response of Karen was almost verbatim as Michelle's.

I also had this experience with Karen Meyers' "transcription service" - getting tired of these and wish we could do something about it; but in order to confirm that they are promoting AMA/Transam, I guess one has to "take their bait" - n'est-ce pas?

I too almost got caught up with that AMA. I had seen the same ad in the classifieds here, from Michele Powers. She had refered me to two other sites.
It's sad that companies and people like that are allowed to scam people who are just trying to earn a dollar.
Everyone just has to be carefull.
I'm still working at my program. Some day I hope to b out there in the working world.
