I have posted my gripes here about my job before. I have thought long and hard about it and finally decided to send out some resumes. My job isn't horrible. There are good things and bad things just like there are with any job. I just got the job as I was finishing up with school and feel that I should see what else is out there now that I have a little bit of experience.

Ok, I'll get to the point. Should I use people from my current job as references(office manager, doctors, etc.)? I know I would get a good reference, but they don't know that I'm even thinking about looking for another job. I'm sure they'll try to talk me out of it if they find out, or I may even decide after the interviews that I will stay at my job. Thank you for any kind of input.

Also, I work for four doctors. I started out with one. The office moved and added two a couple of months later. Then, a couple of months ago they added a fourth doctor to the practice. Should I list these as three different jobs? It seems it would be misleading to say that I have worked for all of them the whole time.

As a potential employer I would be interested in what kind of transcription you have been doing and how long you've been doing it. I would suggest that you list the name of the clinic you are working for now and what kind of transcription you have been doing for them, also the length of time you have been working for them. I don't think you need to go into detail about how long you've transcribed for each individual provider. I don't think it would be inappropriate to list under references something like "I don't wish to have my current employer contacted for a reference as I feel it might jeopardize my job, but I would be willing to undergo testing to assess my skills." If you could list prior employers or people other than just friends or relatives as personal references, that might be helpful. What I look for in a reference is someone who can give me an unbiased assessment of a person's reliability, their ability to learn quickly, how well they take criticism, things like that, and a former employer could give such a reference. Good luck to you
