Did anyone find them really hard? Is the work you get harder than the test? Has anyone failed a test?

I have taken two tests and the second I found really hard. I had a hard time hearing certain phrases. I'm not sure if I did well, and I am feeling really incompetant. I would really like to know about some other experiences with tests!

Hi Rainey,

I have just taken my first test for a company this week. I found it to be challenging, but the material was familiar thanks to my MT course. I wasn't sure how I did either, but I passed the test and was offered a job. So hang in there. I think it is hard to assess yourself and the waiting causes the self-doubt to settle in. Good luck!

Rainey, in the past I've done test tapes for DDI and Health Scribe. At the time, I had been transcribing for ten years. The Health Scribe tape was okay - nothing unreasonable there. The DDI tape, however, was a hoot. As I recall, one doc was talking a mile a minute and repeated everything he said. Another doc was dictating either on a train, next to a train, or possibly even under a train - it was so bad!! The rest of the tape was just as miserable.

I can't blame a company for using difficult test tapes - they need to weed out the wannabees. However, if you find a test tape particularly difficult, I think it's reasonable to ask if this is a fair representation of the type work you'd be doing for them. If the answer is yes, you may want to look elsewhere.

I tested with a national company several weeks ago and found the test to be fairly easy. Since I didn't get any errors on the test, I'm sending my thanks to Andrews School for a terrific education.

The test was trying in places but I knew the words and their meanings.

Rainey, now that you have had some time to test, tell us what YOU think about testing.
