First of all, try checking with your instructors. Your instructor knows your work better than anyone else. Also, if an employer has hired graduates of your school before and liked them, they will want more just like them! You will be in a very good position. They should allow you to test! Second, call the transcription departments and don't actually ask for a job. Ask if the supervisor would be willing to allow you to just test to see how your skills stack up and where you need to do more work. If the supervisor cares about quality and wants to help new MTs get into the business, they will probably want to help you out - IF they aren't snowed under. That's a possibility too. If you aren't too demanding and don't pressure so much that you scare them, that may help. The fact that you aren't asking for a job takes the pressure off so that they are more likely to talk to you and allow you to test, for information purposes.
