Hi, Today is sunny and clear.
Yesterday, well we had smoke from an 80,000 acre fire come across our small town. The American Red Cross has set up a camp 12 miles from us for the evacuated people from a near by town. How is the rest of the CA coast in S. California?
I said the lords pray 5X for everybody.

A thank you note to all. I have a home. This fire went around this area with only smoke. The total was 167,000 acers.
I have started a scrapbook for the firemen in S. CA.

For the CA firemen working on the Zaca fire. Thank you for your work so far in this rough terrain. I saw the pictures behind my hillside. So I understand better of how hard you are working. There is three or more weeks to go for plans of burn operations. Containment at the time of this note is 67%, 127,244 acres. Bless you for your hard work.

http://www.myfoxla.com/myfox/ This is a really good website to catch S.CA news. Even though my family is completely safe at this point (we may have a little smoke come by later). I wanted all to be aware that people can get in touch with their families through http://www.redcross.org. Although people have now been sent home from the evacuation, this disaster of Oct. 2007 is past unbelievable. Today, I saw how exhausted firemen have become. I will send a wish for them to get some rest.

Thank you

Along with banging my head while reading these posts above, let me pass along an FYI to you: The correct term in English is "firefighter" not "firemen". Since English isn't your primary language, I'm sure you didn't know this, but you'll find a lot of terms, especially regarding employment, are no longer slanted towards the male figure. Another example is "Workman's Compensation". It is now just called "Workers Compensation".

I hope someday we can break away from the term "woman" as being somehow derived from the word "man".

Believe it or not, the world will still rotate on its axis - with or without men inhabiting it. Or women, for that matter. I hope we can all break through these stereotypes at some point, but, pear, I realize there are many countries that are further behind in this revelation than the USA, and I sense it's possible that you may, indeed, have immigrated from one of these countries. If so, more power to you. You've come to the right place. If I'm wrong, I extend my apologies for categorizing you by your posts. However, I've got a feeling I'm not completely wrong here. I was just trying to help, if possible, so that you can acclimate a little easier with the language.

I was born in California but thank you for the correction firefighters. So were did you get this information? Do you realize CA has been going through these fires every year since I was born. How long have you been in this state? Not long I figure. Better save some water for the drought, at least I know how to survive these events.
I would appreciate you to correct your hostility.

The above posts started from last year with the Day fire burning for a month from Sept. 4 2006 to Oct. 6 2006, 160,000 acres. The Zaca fire also burned for a month or more starting from July 4,2007 to Sept. 2, 2007 burning 240,000 acres. The latest was the Ranch fire burning in Oct 2007 for 58,000 acres. A subtotal for the area surrounding my town is 458,000 acres. I was lucky to have returned from two evacuations to find my town untouched, and I want to thank all personel for controlling these historical fires.

I'm very happy that you were not affected beyond air quality by the fire. The doctors I transcribe for are ENTs in San Diego County, and I have heard the damage that the air quality has done to patients.

However, I think it unlikely that any firefighting personnel or others closely associated with them would see your thank yous on this forum.

I'm sure local fire companies would appreciate a letter of thank you or a gift of cooked food or another tangible gesture of thanks. That is what we did up here (near the San Gabriel/San Bernardino mountains) when our mountainsides burned in 2003, and believe me, the (mostly guys but few gals also) personnel really appreciated it.

Nice to hear from a CA MT. I am fortunate that I live in a location where the air quality is still untouched. I breathe fresh air where real pinetrees are in my backyard and the scent is unbelieveable. You were kind to give your suggestion to write a thank you card. However, I have already given a christmas card to the CEO who worked with the firefighters. Seeing 6,000 personel and taking notes from FEMA was an unforgetable experience. During the time when I wrote the messages, I was completely alone except for family and my MT friends. I presently wave and chat with personel weekly since one of them is my son who gets enough cake. I am fortunate to live in a friendly town which is peaceful enough to continue my MT work uninterupted. The problem here is that this town community is 75% computer iliterate. So you may be right about firefighters not finding my messages. It is nice to take a break and talk with other persons who share my MT skills on this forum.
