Hello! I've got a question that I believe only you guys can answer for me. It has been brought up on more than one occasion, and I think you are the best ones to clarify it for me. Through your course, what is your protocol and/or opinions of flagging/blanking a spot in a dictation? I've been told that students are trained not to leave blanks or flags because it makes them look incompetent. Is that correct? Thank you for your time!

I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at whoever told you that. Just laughing at the thought of people not flagging for fear of looking incompetent and then taking wrong guesses and REALLY looking incompetent. If that were true about looking incompetent for flagging, then all working MTs would look incompetent at some point or another.

We are encouraged to flag most changes and to flag blanks. Guessing and getting it wrong will only cost you marks and really make you look incompetent. Better to say "I'm not sure about this" than to take a guess and get it wrong.

M-Tec trains you to do things right, so you can start a job and do it the right way. Employers DO NOT want you guessing when you're not sure and neither does M-Tec.
