Hi, I am a military spouse. I just finished the classes at Savannah Tech but they aren't having a graduating class until Dec. I found work a couple hours a week as a receptionist but would like to do the medical transcription. I need help to try to find employment. I kind of feel lost at this point. I have tried looking but most of the jobs say you need experience. I have tried to look at the local hospital job boards but there aren't any MT jobs listed. I am feeling let down since I worked so hard and got a 3.8 but now I can't do anything with it. Any suggestions.

Any reputable school should have some sort of placement assistance available for their graduates. If they do not, it is a good indication that they know of no one that will hire their graduates, which in turn says something bad about the education they provide.

Unfortunately, there may not be a silver lining for your story, as many have found out before you.

Does your school have an office of career planning and placement? If so, they might be able to help you. The director of your program might also be able to help you. If the program is well known and well thought of in the area, then employers sometimes send notices of openings directly to the program director.

Few job announcements clamor for "no experience necessary" unless it is unskilled day labor or some kind of scam.

Employers want experience just because it's a clue that the potential employee has some sort of skills in that area. That doesn't mean they won't consider you, though.

You've taken classes. The fact that you don't officially graduate until December is unimportant. If you learned enough to do this work, then you can get a job.

You have to go GET the job, though. Employers aren't going to hunt for you . . . you have to hunt for them. You have to find them and convince them you can do the work.

Your best bet is going to be with a local service. Look them up and visit them. Ask to be allowed to demonstrate your skills. Ask to take their test. If you present yourself appropriately, with appropriate manners, affect, and appearance, and if you can do the work, someone will hire you.

Getting a job is not always easy, even if you do have experience. You still have to work at it. Even if I were suddenly jobless today, *I* would still have to work at finding and getting a job.

It's up to you!
