<Cue Twilight Zone intro music>
"Imagine, if you will..."
What would happen if BO is, by some chance, NOT elected. How do you think his supporters would react? Would there be a difference in the reaction of the different groups that support him, the whites, the blacks, the Latinos? Would the great hope of those that have considered themselves oppressed and victimized, then dashed against the rocks of the reality of modern America, loose waves of violence ala Watts? Does the promise of his candidacy fuel the pervasive sense of entitlement that is the cornerstone of today's downtrodden? Would the divisions so evident today be widened, simply by his loss?

OTOH, imagine if you will...
BO is elected, but a radical white supremecist group, Nazi skinheads, KKK, or whomever assassinates or attempt to assassinate him. Will it cause waves of violence throughout the black communities, ala Rodney King?
Personally, I think the chance of a Watts repeat would be less if he is not elected than a repeat King episode if he is and his life threatened or taken.
ETA: Just in case anybody decides to accuse me of being racist...this is not just my own thought. DH & I have black friends who live in Milwaukee (3rd Ward) who were the ones who brought this up, not us. But it certainly did cause us to ponder a bit because we're only about 15 miles outside of Milwaukee.

How completely ridiculous. You don't have to be black to be assassinated. Do RFK and JFK ring any bells? Even RR was almost done in by a kook.
Edited to add this very interesting link on the list of attempts as well as successes.

The whole gamut of possibilities exists, of course, but I was wanting people to think, on a personal level, about the remifications of the thing, not so much the thing itself.
BO has fanatical supporters of all colors, and the Dems in general seem to have a certain bloodlust for the WH, after eight years of being sodomized by Bush. Would it be the time for the Second American Revolution? A civil war to rival the first? There are apolitical groups out there (militias) that would foam at the mouth for just enough breakdown or distraction in the central government.

Oh but Casa, the democratic vote is not in yet. There could be a silent riot going on right now as we speak that won't show up until November. From what I read in the comment sections of articles about OB on the CNN website, the Hills folks are storming mad and they are going to make someone pay.
Probably themselves, LOL.

What do you mean, Kim? That the Dem primary has not been held yet and that HC will somehow get the nomination? Or do you mean something else entirely?

Vernondi, I don't think you're a racist for wondering how the the white supremist and other such groups will deal with a BO victory -- I've wondered the same thing and I'm sure a lot of people have. I'm not a BO fan - actually not a fan of anyone seeking the POTUS office this year - but I certainly don't want to see anyone killed or my country thrown into turmoil. It's a frightening thought.

oooo casa, what a thought. I do remember that Hill just suspended her campaign, and did not drop out. That could actually make the big pep rally interesting.

Casa, where in God's freakin' green earth did my post say ANYTHING about having to be black to get assassinated?? Oh my gosh, you are truly self-serving.
And just so you don't take it the wrong way, here's a "smiley" for ya, because apparently that makes all the nasty comments go away.

Really don't see anything "nasty" or self-serving about my post. You were the one who brought up the black thing with your friends in WI. Edited to add that this comment of yours radical white supremecist group, Nazi skinheads, KKK also made me assume you meant the scenario would happen because he is black.

Well, I would assume that the groups Verondi mentioned are where the most likely violent reaction to a BO victory would come from, but there are nuts in every gender, race, religion, etc. (And, yes, that means an equally violent reaction could take place were Hillary or McCain to win.) Election years are very unsettling.

While I'm not happy with Bush, I feel more sodomized by Congress.

True, moabb, their approval ratings is lower than Bush's yet they continually point out Bush's low approval rating. The only time they accomplish anything is if led by they're hatred of Bush.

There are several reasons Bush is the main target, including the fact that all citizens vote to elect a President, while being limited to voting for two Senators and one Representative. I agree that Congress is a big problem, but they represent districts and States, while the President is supposedly the leader of the whole country. I can use the power of my vote to change my Senators and Representatives, but I cannot effect change within the Congress other than that.
Throughtout both of his terms, Bush has demonized the Dems by continuously campaigning, blaming all our ills on them. It is only to be expected that they lash out now at him, and by association, most all Republicans. I see it as them reaping what they have sewn. Additionally, Bush has unlimbered his veto pen and, at this point, the Dems have not the numbers to override his veto, so Congressional progress while he remains in office is not really something that would be reasonable to expect, unless, of course, it is what Bush wants - his way or the highway.

trops, They in fact did override his veto today on the farm bill. You say you can not effect change in Congress yet due to overwhelming appeal from the people the immigration bill did not go through. This was done by constituents calling and writing there senators demanding that what they wanted was not what the people wanted.
Every since 9-11 the dems have blamed every bad thing that has happened on the president. The only thing that I can recall the President saying is that the Senate needs to get to work and bet a bill to him on certain things. Yet, they continue to demonize him and fight him in everything he attempts to do. It is not Bush blocking judicial nominations the past 8 years. Even though the dems agreed to have, what was it 2 nominations pushed through by menorial day they still went on vacation without it done. They went on vacation leaving the paychecks to the troops up in the air. Sorry, it is not any where near as onesided as you see it. He has compromised on things, letting bills through with pork added by the dems, yet they are the ones who will not even start to compromise on anything.

That's one of the beautiful aspects of the checks and balances system the Constitution set up for our government, isn't it? The Executive branch is ultimately no more powerful than Congress, and either can be overruled by the Supreme Court. It DOES take cooperation, and despite your take on things for the last eight years, Bush has not cooperated with the Dems in the least.
Don't worry, though, once we get rid of him things will get back to a steady flow.

If you would care to compare vetoes see this:

Guess he has not blocked much at all for being his way or the highway.
