I'm in Naperville - western suburb of Chicago. Hey Bizeemom - I went to high school in Naperville and lived here during college. Where did you go to school? I was NCHS class of '88.

No, I do not believe the pay is good at all! Lots of time and effort to do this and the pay keeps getting lower and lower. I have not gotten an increase in pay in years!! Run as fast as you can to something else.

I'm from Virginia, IL which is about 35 miles west of Springfield. Definitely have been to Peoria and Petersburg where a couple of you were from. My son loves New Salem and going to InPlay in Peoria. I have worked from home for 5-1/2 years, being an MT for 17. Hate the IL weather, but have lived here all my life so pretty much used to it. Would love to hear from others!!!

Hello out there! I also live in Illinois about 15 minutes outside of STL. Nice to meet you all! I have been an MT for 7 years now and I love it as much as I did when I first started.

Hi fellow IL MT's!!! I live in Rockford, Northern IL right on the border of good ol' WI.
This is my very first time posting anything on MT Chat. What better place to start, huh? Is there anyone out there who lives nearby? I would love to start some type of group around here where we could all get together and talk about everything that is bugging us about docs and what not. At least we would be able to talk to fellow MT's instead to our spouses, when most of the time they just look at you with blank stares not understanding what you are talking about...LOL.
Drop me an e-mail!! Adios!

Hello flatlanders, I am not in Illinois but am in NWI, about 30 minutes from Chicago. We have a lot of flat land too. LOL Am I welcome also with you flatlanders.
I have just finished school so I am trying to land a job at this point. My sister-in-law went to school for MT also. She went through a local school and landed a job at the hospital. She was very surprised that what she learned at the college was so different than the real world. The hospital had to train her. She did make very good money. She could support her family with her income. She recently got a job with an on-line company and does not make as much, but she is happier.

Thanks lydia,
My parents live in Will County Illinois in the small town of Wilmington. Boy, do they get the bad weather. I was on my way home one time from their house and the tornado sirens were going off. I was totally freaked.
What specialties do you type or like to type? I think I would like to do ER. We will have to see with me just starting my career as an MT.
I use to work at the local school system tutoring until they laid off everyone but the teachers. It is a sad situation in the school system with the children being the ones that will suffer.

Chrstn:
I know what you mean about the school thing. I have to stay away from that subject. It is a soap box of mine.
I PMd you with specifics of what I do. (Do you know how to access a PM?) Click up at the top where it says 'MY STUFF'. A drop-down window appears. One of the options will say MY MESSAGES. Also, there should be a little envelope-looking icon if you have received a PM.

Hi--I am in Champaign, Illinois. My husband worked at St. John's in Springfield (2001-2005) and had an apartment across the street from the capitol. I go through Springfield often on my way to St. Louis where my daughter is in college. I have been a "real MT" for two months! (MTEC grad in May) Lynda

LTR, Congrats on the new job. I am in the process of job searching. How was your first two months as an MT? Are you full or part-time? I was told to try full-time at first so that I can build my speed and knowledge. With a son going off to college, I could use the money anyway. LOL
